nyne and twentith of the sayd moneth of de … nyne and twentith of the sayd moneth of december 1654 the sayd shipp being<br />
then [?thwart] Cadiz an other violent storme happened which continued<br />
about the space of eight howers with such force and furie that the sayd<br />
shipp ''Mary and Anne'' was not able to brace any sayle nor durst beare any<br />
for feare of foundering in the sea and the shipps company seeing their perill were minded to have heaved some goods over board for the better preservation of the sayd shipp and the sayd shipp by reason of the violence<br />
of the sayd storme sprange a leake and receaved in much water, but<br />
the winde turning contrary to the point it blew in the tempest aforesayd the<br />
arlate Mr Greene (Master of the sayd shipp) and his Company put in to<br />
Cadiz and there stoppt her sayd leake and made her stanch and fitt to goe to sea<br />
againe the premisses hee deposeth for the reason aforesayd And<br />
further to this article hee cannot depose./
To the 4th hee saith that the sayd shipp being soe repayred and fitted to goe<br />
againe to sea shee sett sayle from Cadiz bound for England And<br />
about the sixth of ffebruary in the English Channell mett with an other<br />
very violent storme which continued alsoe about eight howers and by the<br />
violence thereof the waves beate soe upon the sayd shipp that they often<br />
tymes ranne over the decks in soe much that the sayd shipp could not<br />
choose in all probability but take in and did take in much water but saith<br />
if any damaged happened to the goods on board her the same happened not<br />
by any defect of the sayd shipp who was before the sayd stormes and<br />
still is a stronge tight shipp, but meerely by the violence of the sayd<br />
stormes And saith hee well knoweth the goods on board the sayd shipp<br />
were well and carefully stowed And that the Mariners and Company of<br />
the sayd shipp did their utmost endeavour by plying the pumpe at all<br />
tymes when occasion require, and all other waies, to prevent any damage<br />
to their ladeing on board this hee knoweth being one of the Company as<br />
aforesayd and an eye witnesse And further hee cannot depose./
To the last hee saith his foregoeing deposition is true/
