Transcription or thereabouts and the winde then blowing or thereabouts and the winde then blowing southerly with a pretty stiff gale the master and Compa=<br /> ny of the ''Successe'' arlate did espie a vessell commeing right downe before the winde<br /> or at least very little quartering and steering directly upon the broad side of the ''Successe''<br /> and this deponent being upon deck of the ''Successe'' then with othesrs of the sayd shipps<br /> Company the sayd Master of the ''Successee'' and this deponent and others of the sayd shipps<br /> company called out and cryed to the Company of the sayd shipp which they soe espied<br /> coming right upon them (which shipp proved to be as afterwards appeared the ''dove''<br /> arlate) and desyred them to goe cleere of the shipp ''Successe'' but the Company<br /> of the shipp the ''dove'' made no answere and regarded not what was sayd to<br /> them but hold on their course , which the Company of the ''Successe'' perceiving put<br /> their helme a Lee, and endeavoured all they could to stay the shipp ''Successee'' and prevent<br /> the ''dove'' falling fowle upon her, but the Company of the ''dove'' hold still on their<br /> course and in a carelesse or wilfull manner runne directly aboard the ''Successe''<br /> and brake downe her Larboard bowe to the water and soe bruised her and [?shattered]<br /> her that within a short space after shee sanke downe right and foundred and perished<br /> in the Sea togeather with the sayd ladeing of Coales and Master and mariners Cloathes and instruments and provision of butter and salmon and other things on board her And hee saith that the Master<br /> and Company of the ''Successe'' seeing them selves in such eminent and apparent<br /> danger after the blowe receaved as aforesayd, called and cryed out to the Company<br /> of the ''dove'' to staye and helpe t preserve the lives of the ''Successe'' her Company<br /> but the Master and Company of the ''dove'' regarded not their ceye but sayled<br /> awaie and answered not a worde nor any of [?them] soe much as appeared upon the decke but one man who stood uponthe forecastle of the ''dove'', but spake not nor seemed any way to regard the danger to the ''Successe'' and Company were in but left the shipp ''Successe'' and her company to<br /> the mercie of the sea, which they did as this deponent verily beleeveth to the<br /> end they might escape unknowne, and that if the ''Successe'' and her company perished<br /> it might not be knowne who were the cause thereof, And soe the sayd david Adamson<br /> the Master of the ''Successe'' and Company seeing them selves in that desperate condition, and in that<br /> unchristianlike manner forsaken by the ''dove'' and her Company who had done<br /> them that mischeife, did endeavour the best they could the preservation of their owne<br /> lives and by Gods mercie gott into their shipps boate and sooneafter they were gotten<br /> thereinto the sayd shipp ''Successe'' and her ladeing sanke by reason of the blow shee<br /> receaved as aforesayd from the ''dove'', and after the sayd Master of the ''Successse'' and<br /> his company had floated up and downe upon the sea without either meate drinke<br /> or water or any thinge fitt for their sustenation and preservation by the space of [?three]<br /> howers and better, a shipp or Hoye (whose name this deponent knoweth not) bound for Newcastle<br /> comming by Gods providence neere them, tooke pittie of their distressed condition<br /> and receivef them aboard and carried them to a place called the Sheilds neere Newcastle<br /> the premisses hee knoweth being one of the Company of the ''Successe'' and present when<br /> all the premisses were soe done as is above declared And further to these articles<br /> hee cannot depose./ To the 6th hee saith for the reason aforesayd videlicet that hee was one of the Company of<br /> the ''Successe'', and came thither with the Master of her hee knoweth that the sayd Master and this<br /> deponent and the rest if the Company of the ''Successe'' after their sayd vessell was lost as<br /> aforesayd did arrive at Newcastle upon the 10th or 11th of August last and found the<br /> vessell the ''dove'' arlate lying on the outside of other shipps at a place called<br /> Jarra Key neere Newcastle, and saith the ''dove'' had then her bowe dubbed with the<br /> stroake shee made against the ''Successe'' when shee sanke the same, and a Carpenter<br /> was then at worke mending the sayd ''doves'' bowe And this deponent<br /> hath heard david Adamson affirme that the Carpenter who<br /> belonged to the sayd Shipp ''dove'' did confesse to him the sayd Adamson that it was<br /> the same shipp ''dove'' did confesse to him the sayd Adamson that it was<br /> the same shipp ''dove'' whose bowe was then a mendeing which did sinke<br /> the sayddeing which did sinke<br /> the sayd  +
