The premisses hee deposeth upon the reasons ensueing, that is to say, for that
hee this deponent having for severall yeares last past held Correspondencie with, and
well knowne the trade and negotiation of Edward Peters, was in the
the said producent before the tyme that the said shipps were taken showed unto
this deponent letters of advise and bills of lading which hee had receved from his
said ffactors over land, intimating and importing, that they had laden, all the greatest
part of the sylver bullion and moneys aboard the said shipp[?s] by the order and
for and upon the proper accompt and adventure of the said producent in returne
of such his goods as hee had formerly sent unto them, And for that the said
deponent as aforesaid then perused in Mr. Peters his howse at Antwerp and which
have since the seizure of the said shipps been sent here into England expressely
for the Clayming of the said sylver for the said accompt, and forasmuch as this
Deponent is by manie yeares experience well acquainted with the severall handwriting
wherewith the bills of lading now showne unto him are filled up and firmed, as
hee in Conscience stedfastly beleeveth, and for that hee findeth the nyne bills of
lading now perused by him punctually to agree with other nyne of the same respective
tenors seized in the said shipps, and now remaining in the Registrie of this
Court where this deponent hath often seene and perused them, hee is fully and
absolutely confirmed and assured, that the said bills of lading were and are
true and reall, and so had and done as therein is contained. And further
cannot depose:/
To the 5. and 6th. hee saith an deposeth, That the said Edward Peters
the producent in this Cause hath formerly lived at Dover in England, from
