Nayles, bolts, provisions of Victualls and other things the particulars<br />
whereof or respective severalll summes paid for all or any of them, or the<br />
names of the parties or persons who were present; or the occasion of them<br />

Examined uppon the sayd allegation

Captaine of the ''Advantage frigot'', aged two and<br />
thirty yeares or thereabouts a witnes sworne and<br />
examined deposeth and saith as following videlicet.
To the first article of the sayd Allegation This deponent saith that the arlate shipp<br />
the ''[?Golden] Starr'' was chased fought with and taken upon the English coast<br />
betweene Beachy and the Isle of Wight by the ''Advantage frigot'' whereof<br />
this deponent was Captaine, and the ''Water hound'' whereof Giles Shelley<br />
was Captaine both the sayd shipps being in the immediate service of this<br />
Commonwealth, which this deponent knoweth being Captaine of the ''Advantage''<br />
''frigott'' and present at the chase, fight and seizure aforesayd. And otherwise<br />
cannot depose.
To the 2d he saith the sayd seizure fight and chase happened as aforesayd<br />
off of Beachy within 5 leagues or thereabouts of the English shoare upon<br />
the 23th day of ffebruary, 1652 last past. which he knoweth for the reason<br />
aforesayd. And otherwise cannot depose.
To the 3d he saith in ffebruary 1652, and for many monethes<br />
before and continually since there was and is warr betweene the Commonwealth<br />
and the States Generall of the united Provinces, And so much was and is<br />
publike and notorious, and was in ffebruary aforesayd and many monethes<br />
before as he verily beleiveth and knowne and belived in Spaine and the P[XXXX GUTTER]<br />
thereof and particularly att [?Cadiz]. and in fflanders Hamburgh, and other<br />
ports and places beyond the seas, and well knowne as he also beleiveth to<br />
the Master and Company of the ''?Golden Starr'' afforesayd. And otherwise cannot depose.
To the 4th he saith the sayd shipp ''?Golden Starr'' att the tyme of the chase aforesayd<br />
was sayling in that way or course that lyeth and leadeth directly for [XX GUTTER]<br />
