hee his deponent by the space of theise 25 … hee his deponent by the space of theise 25 years last past or<br />
thereabouts hath from tyme to tyme used the trade of ffrance and hath<br />
traded as a merchant att Bayonne and other ports in ffrance from whence<br />
hee hath received very many parcells of goods all which were and have<br />
bin from tyme to tyme entred in the Custome house where the same was<br />
laden to bee the goods of this deponents respective factors who laded<br />
the same when as in the very truth such goods soe entred were laden for the<br />
propper account and Adventure of this deponent and the factor who<br />
laded the same albeit they were entred in his name yet had hee noe<br />
property at all or interest therein. And soe much hee saith<br />
was and is true publique and notorious and well knowne to all<br />
merchants and others who have lived in and used the trade of ffrance<br />
which from tyme hath bin and still is after the manner before specified And<br />
further cannot depose.
To the rest hee is not Examined by direction of Mr ffrancklin

To the first hee saith hee hath not doe deposed.
To the second Interrogatorie hee saith hee cannot depose<br />
hee never sawe the Charter partie interrogated/
To the third Interrogatorie hee saith that hee this Examinate was never<br />
in person in any port in ffrance but hath used by his correspondents<br />
and factors to trade there for the space of tyme predeposed. and from<br />
tyme to tyme upon the ladeing of any goods from frane for this deponents<br />
account hath receaved and seene the cocquetts and coppies of the entries in the Custome<br />
house for such goods as laden for the use of his said factors when<br />
as in truth the said goods soe entred in his factors names did belong<br />
to and were really laden for the account of him this deponent and not of his said factor<br />
And further saving his foregoing deposition hee saith hee cannot<br />
depose.
To the 4th hee hath not soe deposed.
To the 5th hee answereth negatively/
