- (Will) I'm not sure about this section - Colin, have you and the other advisors settled on matters of transcription policy yet or is this an unknown area still?
- (CSG) Dr Charlene Eske and I are going to take the lead on this, but we want to involve a larger group, including the advisors and facilitators

CSG to Charlene and Stuart, 06/08/12
"Hi Charlene and Stuart (assuming that Stuart is now back from his holiday in Ireland and Scotland),
Dr Murphy continues to be supportive of me and MarineLives, but she is extremely busy at the moment - she has a book at proof stage, and is hard at work as a postdoc research assistant on the Cromwell Papers with Professor John Morrill.
I am very keen to extend and maintain Dr Murphy's interest in our project - she and I have not yet met, though she knows your fellow project advisor, PhD candidate Richard Blakemore, who is also in Cambridge. She has edited the most recent serious academic work on High Court of Admiralty records (Elaine Murphy (ed.), A calendar of material relating to Ireland from the High Court of Admiralty, 1641-1660 (Irish Manuscripts Commission, Dublin, 2011)) and has had a monograph published on Civil War naval warfare (Elaine Murphy, The War at Sea in Ireland, 1641-1653 (Boydell and Brewer, 2012). Her views on the quality of our eventual completed transcription, linked and enhanced transcription, will be important in demonstrating that a public/academic collaborative digital initiative can produce work of an acceptable academic standard.
She has offered to be in email touch with Charlene re. the editorial policy adopted by her on her Irish HCA work, and on other issues of transcription and editorial policy, and indeed with other members of the team, should there be appropriate questions. I would encourage both of you to be in touch with her as you see fit and useful"

"I have ordered a copy of Dr. Murphy’s edition and will give her editorial method section a close read once it arrives."
