Southwarke yeoman annos agens 26 aut [?interdicit] et
deponit prout sequitur videlicet

Ad primum et 2um arles dra Allegatione deponit et dicit That hee well knoweth
the arlate Arnold and Elias Beake and soe hath done ever since hee can
remember during all which time they the said Arnold and Elias Beake have
lived in London and were and are subiects of his Majesty of England and
soe commonly accounted and knowne to be and saith that they are merchants
of great repute and dealings on their owne accunt which hee knoweth
for that hee hath bin one of their Clerkes in their counting house for
about a yeere last and used to copy their letters and make up
accounts about their merchandizing affaires, And saith that hee
thereby alsoe knoweth that they have during the said times of his having
bin their servant driven a great trade from ffrance to England for wine
Brandy [?prunes] and other things and all as far as ever hee understood
on their owne account and adventure they being brothers using to trade in
partnership, et alr nescit

Ad 3:um 4:um 5:um 6:um 7:um 8:um et 9:um arles dra Allonis deponit et dicit
That by the meanes aforesaid hee knoweth that Samuel Beake the
son of the said Arnold Beake (which Samuel is alsoe well knowne
to this deponent who allwayes tooke him to be an Englishman borne and
subject of his majesty of England) hath bin for all the time that he
this deponents said service and before ffactor at Bourdeaux for his said
father and uncle Elias Beake, And saith that the said Arnold and Elias
Beake on or about the 18th of June last sent a letter dated
that day to the said Samuel at Bourdeaux to freight a free ship of about sixty Tonnes and
to lade there for their joint account ten tonns of Clarretts of the Rest of the
loading of very good [?XXX] white wine and to let it be done with what
experience hee could and to send them hether, and to put in five or ten tonns
of good vinegar according as it might fall out or to that effect
and on the 25th of June last they wrote him thus. I question not but that
you have freighted the ship which I ordered 8 dayes agoe and out therein
fourty or fifty tonnes of caske wines and 20 peeces of Brandy, when they
are gon then twenty peeces more in some bodyes else, And saith that
according to his office hee helped to dispatch away the said letters but
what the said Samuel wrote in answer this deponent tooke not notice
untill lately hee sawe this letters annexed to the said Allegation which [?together]
with the Invoyces hee doth verily beleeve are written and firmed by the
said Samuel Beake. And alsoe verily beleeveth that the
respective goods mentioned therein and in the bills of Lading annexed [?XXX] [?XXX] were
laden by the said Samuel Beake onboard the arlate ship ffortune
of Dantzick John Deplessey master
to be transported from Bourdeaux to this Port of London and were to
be delivered or that account [?XXXX] of the respective persons therein mentioned [?XXX]
Twenty peeces of brandy sixty two tonnes and one hogshead of wine and three
tunns and three hogsheads of vinegar [?XXX XXXX XXXX] for account and risgo of the said Arnold Beake
(his said brother being in partnership with him) and ten peeces of Brandy
marked as in the margent for the account and risgo of the arlate Peter Crosse [?XXX]

to London with the said goods in her was as hee understands taken by one of
[?Carewes] Privateers and brought up first to Poole and then to [?XXX]
