troubled with the importunitie of the said Mitchell who urged him to assigne
Bills over unto him for payment which the said Rippen said wouldbe
to his disparagement, hee the said Rippen at length delivered 180 yards
of ffrench Canvas to John Cotton of Ratcliffe sailemakerm to the end
(as hee declared) to have the said Cotton bound to the said Mitchell for
the said moneyes, and soe to avoide the said Mitchells frequent and
earnest pressing of payment for the present, and further that there
being a foresaile making in the said Rippens shopp for the said
Mitchells brother a master of a shipp, the said Rippen said to this
deponent whilest it was in working, John, here [?will] to tenne
pounds (meaning money for the said saile) towards the payment of Mitchell,
Soe the said Mitchell tooke and accepted the said Rippen for
his paymaster for his said ammunition and quitted (as this deponent
apprehended) both the said Corbin and the said shipp there from. And
further hee cannot depose.

Margaret Child wife of William Child of
Billingsgate Salter, aged 18 yeeres or thereabouts
sworne, and Examined
To the first and 2d article shee saith that on or about the 24th of January last
the arlate Charles Mitchell and Mathew Clements did come to
the arlate John Corbins house in wapping who was then Master of the
arlate ship the Roger and Edmond, and the said Mitchell did
ask the said Corbins wife (the said Corbin being gone forth)
whether shee could tell whether Mr Rippen (arlate) had provided
him any Security for his moneyes for Ammunition delivered
aboard the said Ship, to which the said Corbins wife made answer
shee could not tell. and then the said Mitchell said gee must
take his Course against the Ship; And the said Corbins wife telling
him that hee the said Mitchell had receaved tenn pounds in part
of the said Rippen, and asked him if hee did not accept of the
said Mr Rippens bill for his payment; hee the said Mitchell
made Answer and Confessed that hee had receaved tenn pounds
of he said Rippen in part for the said Ammunition, and had
taken his bill for the rest; and alsoe said that if the said
Rippen would but give him good security for the rest of
his moneyes for the said materialls, hee would be Content
to stay a twelve moneth for it or to that eefect, at all which
this deponent was present (living in house with the said Mr Corbin)
and heard the same, and further cannot depose./.
To the Interrogatories.
To the first shee saith shee was not present att the making any release
as is interrate nor sawe any money paid to the said Mitchell or [?XXX] and
otherwise cannot Answer./
To the second, shee saith shee cometh required by the producent Corbin to testify in
this Cause, and is to have nothing for her testimony. and otherwise negatively./
