Transcription

To the sixth article hee saith that the linnens arlate (beibg [?XXXs] canvas)
brought to this port of London in the said shipp Saint Jacob and consigned
to Lucas Lucy, Gerrard van [?heytchusen] and david [?ffeth[?XX] arlate
were saved out of a shipp (whereof John ffox was commannder) that
was cast away att lieba shortly before the putting the same aboard
the Saint Jacob: which linnens being soe cast away were recovered
againe out of the sea, and some endeavour used to drie them at
the house in lieba where this deponent lay, but hee beleeveth
they were not fully dried when they were put into a boate
to be carried aboard the Saint Jacob, besides hee saith that itreceived
when they were carrying aboard the Saint Jacob (which carrying was in
an open boate) by which meanes aforesaid, hee saith they could not
but be wett and in ill condition at their lading, and
hee verily beleeveth that whatsoever dammadge happened in the said
goods when they came to be delivered, was occcasioned by the
said casting away in Captaine ffozes shipp, and their lading aboaard
the Saint Jacob in wet weather and the storme and fowle weather
wherewith the said shipp as aforesaid met in her course for London.
And saith hee this deponent was acquainted with the lading the
said linnens at dantzike aboard Captaine ffoxes shipp, and
thereby came to take the more notice of them after the said disaster
at Lieba. And otherwise hee cannot depose, saving the Saint Jacob
was a very strong staunch and sufficient shipp

To the Interrogatories. [CENTRE HEADING]

To the first negatively, referring himselfe to his foregoeing deposition.

To the second hee beleeveth the said linnens had bin roasted and
dried aswell as they could be in the space betweene their
recoverie out of the sea after their casting away in the said ffoxes
shipp and their lading aboard the said shipp Saint Jacob. And
otherwise hee cannot depose

To the 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. hee saith that the said linnens were
stowed in and about the midd shipp and very carefully stowed as
appeared to this deponent when hee came aboard heer at Lieba to
come for London; And otherwise saving as aforesaid hee cannot
depose./
