Rp. 3.

Thomas Bee of Salcombe in the County of devon mariner
one of the Quarter masters of the said ship the Chase,
aged 34 yeares or thereabouts sworne and examined.

To the first article of the said allegation hee saith and deposeth that in
the homewards course of the said ship the Chase from Scanderon
and Cyprus, coming off Cape ffinis-terre shee met with very
furious and stormie weather in or about November last, which lasted
about 28 dayes together, saving that for some part of that space
the weather was nowe and then lesse violent, and
yet stressie; and saith that in and by occasion of the said stormes and
tempestuous weather the vessel unavoidably tooke in much water
by shipping of seas and otherwise; and further that whatsoever
damage is befallen the merchandize aboard her, the same came
and happened mearly by meanes of the said fowle weather and not by
any insufficiencie of or in the said vessel or by any neglect of the
master and companie or of any of them, for the said ship was (as
hee saith) staunch and sufficient till shee met with the said stormes
and for the master and companie, hee saith that they in all the
terme of the voyage used all care and diligence like faithfull
mariners to preserve the said lading from hurt or damage,
which hee knoweth being one of the Quarter masters and all the
said voyage in her. And otherwise hee cannot depose.

Repeated with his two precontests before
