Transcription

arlate the producent Albert Lemmerman hath bin and at presnt ought
to be the true and lawfull owner and proprietor of the said shipp the Saint
Jacob and of her tackle apparrell and furniture and for such commonly
accompted and reputed, which hee knoweth for that hee this deponent to the
time of her late disaster hereafter mentioned was master of her and
was put master of her by the said producent Albert Lemmerman;

To the second article hee saith and deposeth that in the monethes of August
and September last past the said shipp the Saint Jacob being at Porto
Port in the dominions of the king of Portugall and bound for Amsterdam
was laden at Porto Port aforesaid with 264 bales of Sumack
for the merchants accompt and two and twenty bales of sumack for this
deponent accompt; and alsoe for the merchants accompt five hundred Rolls
or thereabouts of tobaccoe, five and twenty chests of sugar, eighteene
Elephants teeth, five bales of linnen, and foure cases of [?confecture]
or sweet meates, and some other goods, all to be thence transported in the
said shipp for Amsterdam and there to be delivered to and for accompt
of the said Albert Lemmerman and of the arlate Abraham [?Ampen]
and company all merchants of Amsterdam and thereabouts and subiects
of the Lords the States of the United Netherland Provinces, and for such
commonly accompted, saving that two and twenty cases of sumack as
aforesaid belonging to this deponent were to be delivered for his
accompt, and that hee alsoe was and is an Inhabitant of Amsterdam
and a subiect of the said lords the States, the premisses touching the
said lading hee knoweth being master of the said shipp and present
at the same, and signing bills for the same./

To the third hee saith that the said shipp having received the said goods
aboard, set saile and departed from Porto Port aforesaid on the 13th of September last old stile bound for
Amsterdam, and steered her course thitherward, and that in her said
course of proceeding shee sprung a very greate leake, where through
the water came abundantly into her, soe as both shee and her lading
together with this deponent and company were in danger of perishing
and of being swallowed up in the sea

To the fourth article hee saith and deposeth that this deponent and
company seeing them selves and their said shipp and lading in such
distresse and danger, by meanes of the said leake; and being come
to the coast of Sussex in the third of October last old stile, they
endeavoured to run ashore there, and at length on the said third of
October last did run or bring their said shipp (with the said lading in her)
ashore neare little hampton in the said County.

To the fifth hee saith that the same night after such their bringing or
running their said shipp with their said lading ashore, this deponent
with some of his company went out of their said shipp into their boate
and went towards Little hampton aforesaid to seake for help to save the said
shipp
