Transcription

To the eighth article hee saith that hee well knoweth all
the persons arlate by Correspondence, and that they are Portugeses and
inhabitants of Lisbone and subiects of the king of Portugall andfor
such commonly accompted, and that they were and are severally the
factors of the respective producents as in the said article is deduced
and for such commonly accompted, which hee knoweth corresponding
with them and all receiving many dispatches both from the one and the
other touching their said factorage and corresponencie. And otherwise
hee cannot depose.

To the nineth article hee saith and deposeth that hee well knoweth
the arlate Alfoss[?e] Suarez personally, and that hee was and is
the factor agent and correspondent of the severall producents arlate
and of every of them, and for such commonly accompted, this deponent
having bin at Roane where hee resides and by that meanes and the
correspondance that this deponent hath with him and the said producent[?s]
hee well knoweth the same, and saith the said Alfonse is a
Portugese by birth, and did and doth live at Roane only as a
marchant stranger and factor to Portugeses of this deponents
sight and knowledge, and for such and a subiect of the kinge of
Portugall hee the said Alfonse was and is commonly accompted and reputed
And otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the tenth article hee saith and deposeth that before the
twentieth day of June last past and before the taling of the said
shipp the Thirstie hart, the arlate Jeronimo Nunez da Costa,
and diego ffernando Lemoas did fro Amsterdam send advice to
this deponent to London, that they had given order for lading of
sugars and other merchandizes aboard the Thirstie hart at Lisbone
for their accompts, and ordered and directed him, that in case the said
shipp and her lading should be taken by any of the shipps of the
Commonwealth of England, and brought into England, that hee
would looke after and cause the said goods laden for their accompt to
be claimed for their accompt, which advise this deponent received before
the said seizure, and before hee had any notice thereof, and that
Mr Augustine Coronell (as hee informed this deponent) received
alsoe advise from them to that purpose.

To the eleaventh article and the severall markes of the severall
bills of lading exhibited and nowe showed unto him, hee saith that
they were and are severally the markes of the respective claimers
as in the said article is declared, and that they have and doe usually
marke goods with the said respective markes of this deponents knowledge
having received severall parcells of marchandizes from most of them under the
said severall markes and being well informed of the markes of the rest which goods were for their accompts. And
otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the twelveth article hee saith and deposeth that for theise seaven
yeares last all the persons producent arlate have lived and inhabited
in Amsterdam as Burgers and citizens of that place, and were and
are commonly accompted subiects of the Lords the States of the United
Netherlands
