The twelveth of September 1655 [CENTRE HEADING]
The claime of the said William Bolyn}
for the Crosse of Jerusalem}
Examined upon the foresaid allegation
dt.

René Bleau of Saint Malo's in ffrance Mariner
aged 34 yeares or thereabouts sworne and
examined.
To the first and second article sof the said allegation hee saith and deposeth
that hee hath well knowne the producent William Bolyn
for theise thirtie yeares last or neare thereabouts and even from his
infancie, they being borne and brought up neare another in Saint
Malo's where they were play fellowes when they were children: And
saith that about elaven or twelve yeares since the said William
Bolyn being sett upon in the night time by a company of lewd
fellowes, who abused him and cutt off his handsome longe haire
with knives and cisors, and mangled, with which affront hee was
soe inraged that hee left the towne suddanily and made an oath
that hee would never retourne thither againe and soe hee went
to Amsterdam where hee hath dwelt ever since, being a
merchant there of good fashion, and there this deponent hath bin at
his house, and seene that hee is a houskeeper there, and saith
that the said William Bolyn having lived soe longe as aforesaid
at Amsterdam was and is commonly reputed a subiect of the Lords
the States of the United Netherlands, and a Burgher of that
citie, And otherwise hee cannot depose as hee saith.
To the Interrogatories. [CENTRE HEADING]
To the first hee saith hee doth not knowe the said shipp the Crosse
of Jerusalem, nor did ever belonge unto her, and saith hee hath
alwaies lived at Saint Malo's saving when hee hath bin in voyages at
sea, and dwelleth her at this present, and saith hee hath noe
relation by kindred or otherwise to the said William Bolyn, nor hath
this deponent any space in the said shipp or lading, nor any interest
therein.
To the second hee saith that the said William Bolyn (whose title is
Simon de La Gard) hath lived at Amsterdam as aforesaid, referring
himselfe to his foregoeing deposition.
To the third and the rest of the Interrogatories hee saith
that hee cannot answer therto further than as aforesaid, for hee
knoweth nothing of the said shipp or of the voyage in question.

from this deponents infancie hee and this deponent being natives of
Saint Malos
