up in a tar-pawling, and thrust as farr as a man could reach
with his arme, and that the said papers were soe wrapt in three
severall bundles. And otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the tenth hee saith that the said masters mate having soe found
the said papers about two houres after the said seizure, and after
the said Reyer Cornelison had delivered the said two papers to this
deponent and had denied that hee knew of any more, and
that this deponent had the said papers soe found by the mate
in his hand, hee fell againe to examining the said Skipper
for more [a[ers amd urging him then [?sure] hee had more,
and hee still persisting in deniall, this deponent produced
the said papers and showed them unto him, saying, Nowe
Skipper, what papers are theise. where to hee answered,
where the divell get you them, and this deponent replying
Skipper, where you hidd them, there they were found, and
saying Skipper what goods are they nowe, are they ffrench
goods or dutch, hee againe answered, nowe they are
all ffrench goods, what neede you aske mee any more
questions, have you not all the [?brieXXX] or papers or to
that effect. Only, hee said the oranges and lemmons being
about 40 or 50000 were his and his companies, and that
there were noe other dutch goods, and this deponent going
aboard wuith him, hee showd this deponent where the said
oranges and lemmons lay, and againe confessed that saving
them, all the goods were ffrench, and hee was much
abashed and troubled that hee was taken in his
first voyage wherein hee was master, as hee said that was

William Garret of shoe lane Tailor, nowe belonging to
the said frigot the Tyger aged 40 yeares or thereabouts
sworne and examined.

To the seeaventh, eighth and ninth articles hee saith and deposeth that
when the company of the hare in the ffeild espied the English shipps the Tyger and the
drake, they asmuch as they could declined them and indeavoured to get
away, soe that the said English shipps gave chase to her about two
houres before they could come within shott of her, and though shee was
forced to stay, and was haled, yet the master would not come out to surrender
his shipp till after Captaine Sannders had sent twice to commannd him
aboard, as those of the company of the Tyger that were sent retourned
word to the said Captaine, alleadging as they said that it was night, with
