Transcription

To the 26th article hee saith and deposeth that on the 28th day
of June last this deponent at sea met with a dutch shipp comming
from haver de Grace, the master whereof upon discourse about the hare in the feild
declared and avouched to the same effect concerning the ffrench and the
ading of the said shipp as was before declared by the said [?donne].
And hee hath met with many ffrench fishermen to the number
of fourtie as hee beleeveth (since the said seizure of the hare in
the ffeild) who have come from haver de Grace, who have
reported and declared to this deponent in the presence of others that
there was a greate uproare amongest the ffrench merchants
concerning the taking the hare in the ffield, and howe they railed
against the dutch for it, and much bemoaned and lamented the
said losse, and said there was a generall and common voice
and fame at Roane and haver de Grace touching the greate
losse of the ffrench by the said seizure
[?and ?XXX] thereupon they unrigged sixteene shipps for Newfound land banck and said that they would set out noe more shipps
[?untill] they sawe whether there
shoudl be pease or noe

To the first hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition
and otherwise cannot answer.

To the second hee saith hee was not at haver de Grace while
the hare in the feild was there, and therefore negatively.

To the third hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition and cannot
otherwise depose. saving hee heard the names of Peter du vall
and Simon and david Coniers and monsieur de Pappe as some of the ffrench merchants
that laded the said goods, and that Peter du vall was imployed
cheifely by the merchants of Roane to see to the lading of the said
goods.

To the fourth hee saith that it being as aforesaid generally reported
and averred by all persons that ever hee met with that came
from haver de Grace since the hare in the ffeild, that shee was
laden with ffrench goods and for french mens accompt, and hee
upon good ground verily beleeving the same to be true, hee hath
reported the same to others, who as hee beleeveth have againe
spoken thereof.

To the 5th hee saith that the masters of shipps interrogated spake in dutch
which this deponent well understandeth, and otherwise referreth
himselfe to his foregoeing deposition.

To the 6th hee saith hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition, and
saith that if it be expedient to name the houre of the day (which hee
thinks frivolous) hee shall when required and that hee hath his iurnall
with him which is nowe at Portsmouth and too bigge to carry without
necessitie, give satisffaction to the Judges of this Court therein.

To the 7th hee saith hee doth not knowe any of the persons interrogated
of his owne knowledge, and otherwise cannot answer.

To the 8th hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition, and that
hee tooke the effect of all in writing, and thereby is the better
grounded in what hee hath spoken.

To the 9th 10th 11th and 12th hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition.

To the 13 and 14th hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition.

To the 15th hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition and otherwise
negatively.
