to London And hee alsoe saith the sayd ffleete did spoile and breake on eof
the cables of the Switzer and that the same was worth forty pounds sterling
in this deponents Judgment and estimate And further hee cannot depose/
To the 7th and the schedule therein mentioned hee saith that the same being read
to him by the Interpreter at this his examination and alsoe showne him this deponent
hee saith the same is a true translation of a schedule or noate which this
deponent made in high dutch of all the severall parcells of goods which were in the Switzer
at the tyme of her sayd seizure as alsoe of the quantitie of livers which
each parcell was to have paid at haverdegrace for freight, And hee saith
every parcell therein conteyned was there to have paid the quantitie of Livers
in the sayd schedule expressed And further to this article hee cannot depose/
To the 8th hee saith hee well knoweth that besides the goods claymed by
the Zollicoffers and Scrothering there were in the Switzer at her seizure
40 chests of soape belonging to the Master and Company of the sayd shipp
and a parcell of ffustick wood used for stowage which belonged to the Owners
of the sayd shipp, and alsoe all the other parcells of goods specified in
the schedule in the next precedent article mentioned And further to this article
hee cannot depose./
To the last hee saith his foregoeing deposition is true/
To the Interrogatories./ [CENTRE HEADING]
To the first Interrogatorie hee saith hee hath bin Purser of the shipp Interrate for these
two yeares last past and was aboard her at her seizure and is a Westfalian by
byrth and hath lived at hamburgh all the tyme Interrogate and is not of kinne
or a servant to any of the producents and hath 4 chests of soape belonging to him
which are part of the forty chests belonging to the master and Company of the sayd shipp
And further hee cannot answere/
To the 2 hee saith hee hath knowne the Interrogate Langerman for 10 or 12 yeares last
past and John Scrothering the like tyme and haance Conrade Zollicoffer ever since
about december last And saith the sayd Scrothering and Langerman are both hamburgers
by birth (as hee hath heard and beleeveth) and knoweth they have lived and kept their
families there these 10 yeares last past and more and the rest of the persons Interrogate hee hath
noe personall knowledge of but by Common report hath heard and beleeveth they are all
Switzers of Saint Gallo And further hee cannot answere/
To the 3 hee saith hee as not present when the shipp Interrogate was bought nor
sawe any money paid for it, but saith hee hath heard it was bought at
Marsellis about three yeares since and upwards, nor knoweth what the same cost nor
of any bill of sale made thereof, And further saving his foregoeing deposition
hee cannor answere/
To the 4th Interrogatorie hee saith hee hath knowne the Interrogate hinsh above these three
yeares last past and saith hee is a hamburgher And saith that about three yeares
and better since (hee this deponent being then servant to the producent Langerman) did see [?severall]
letters sent by the sayd Langerman from hamburgh to Marsellis
to his ffactors there expressing that the sayd hinsh should then be made master of the shipp the Switzer
and brought to hamborough And further hee cannot answere/
