demanded it before this man (meaning this deponent) I knowe what is due
but cannot pay you at present, but I will speake with my partner Mr Gooding
(meaning as this deponent beleeveth the arlate Gooding) and I pray you come you and
this man with you on Tuesday next in the forenoone to the signe of the white
harte at Wapping Wall and there I will then meete you and pay you your
full due which is behinde (meaning as this deponent beleeveth the
sayd 114 li 15 s) to a pennye And hee saith those words or other to the like
effect were spoken in manner predeposed by the sayd Beale and Langdon
at the sayd Langdons house at Wapping Wall the sayd seaventh day of
September 1655, in the presence and hearing of this deponent And further
to this article hee cannot depose of his knowledge for that hee this deponent
did not upon the sayd Tuesday goe with the sayd Beale to the sayd Langdons howse,
for the sayd Beale was gone forth before hee this deponent came to his the sayd Beales
howse to goe with him according to appointment, But saith that afterwards the
sayd Beale meeteing with this deponent in the streete as this deponent was
comming from the sayd Beales howse in the forenoone of the sayd Tuesday hee
the sayd Beale then told this deponent that the sayd Langdon came to his
the sayd Beales house that Tuesday morning, before such tye as this deponent
came thether, and pretended to and told him the sayd Beale that if hee would
goe alonge with him or come to the place appointed hee would pay
him the 114 li 15 s due to him the sayd Beale, whereupon the sayd beale (as
hee told this deponent) went from his howse (before this deponent came thither)
towards the place appointed, and that the sayd langdon and the sayd Goodwin did
by the waye cause him to bee arrested at their suite, but had payd him the
sayd Beale none of the sayd 114 li 15 s which was due to him from them
but sett him at defyance and sayd they would not pay him a penny thereof or
the sayd Beale then told and spake words to this deponent to the very like effect.
To the last hee saith his foregoeing deposition is true/
To the Interrogatories [CENTRE HEADING]
To the first Interrogatorie hee saith hee was none
of the Company of the Providence the voyage
Interrogate and further saving his foregoeing deposition
hee cannot answere/
To the second and third Interrogatories hee saith hee
sawe not the delivery of any of the deales Interrogate
and therefore cannot saving his foregoeing deposition further
answere to this Interrogatorie otherwise than negatively./
