from thence in October last, And that by his being there hee
well knoweth that the custome in the Morea is that if any
English Merchant is a factor come to buy any commodity they
are to acquaint the Consull of the sayd Morea or in his
absence his Vice=Consull and to take his assistance or advice
in taking the Licence for Lading of goods and to take a Dr[?a]ggerman that soe what they goe to buy
may be according to the custome of the place and that noe disturbance may arise and that for
the same there is the duty of Consulage due and to bee payd
unto the sayd Consull by the English Merchants and
shipps, And further he deposeth not

To the 2d and 3d articles he deposeth and saith that the places
arlate videlicet Nathalagoe, Vesticha, Lepanto and Petras
doe all belong unto and are under the Consullshipp of the
Morea and that the arlate Mr Richard Middleton (since
deceased) was in the monethes of June, July August, September
and October 1654 Consull for the English Nation in the
Morea and that then he the deponent was his Vice Consull
And he saith that in and about the arlate moneth of July
1654 he this deponent being Vice=Consull did by the order and
with the consent of the sayd Consull, and by the appointement
and direction of the arlate John Taylor and Company the
producents, contract and agree with the Bashaw and Vice=Bashaw
of the Morea for all the curants of the sayd places videlicet
of Nathalagoe, Vesticha Lepanto and Petras) for the proper
account and adventure of the sayd John Tayler and Company
And that the bargaine between him this deponent being Vice Consull
then of the sayd Morea, for the sayd Currants for and on the
behalfe of the sayd Tayler and Company, and the said
Bashaw of Morea and Vice=Bashaw was that the sayd
Tayler and Company showld have all the Currants of
all the sayd places at the rate of two dollars and
and halfe per sacke, in what condition soever they were good or bad
And he saith that there was payd in persuyance of the
said bargaine divers summes of money by or on the behalfe of
the sayd Tayler and Company, and alsoe cloth and lead
besides presents and dutyes to a great valew; The which premisses
he well knoweth for that he being (as he hath predeposed) then ViceConsull
of the Morea arlate he made the bargaine for all the said
Currance of all the sayd places on the part and behalfe of
the producents with the said Bashaw and his Vice Bashaw and
for that he the deponent did with his owne hands pay severall
summes of money in performance of the said bargaine concerning
the sayd Currance, And his this deponents brother the then
Consull there did of his this deponents knowledge, alsoe pay other
suumes of money and other Merchandizes for the said
Currance soe contracted for and bargained, And further he
cannot depose./

To the fourth article he deposeth and saith that in pursuance
of the sayd contract and bargaine soe made betweene him this
deponent on the behalfe of the producents and the sayd
Bashaw and his Vice=Bashaw, the sayd Bashaw did cause
the Country people of the sayd places to bee summoned in
and gave notice unto them of the bargaine of saile (sic)
of all their Currance, which he had soe made, and required
them to bring in their Currance with all speed to bee
weighed
