Transcription

beere from the Crane or wharfe of Mr William hickocks to be
brought aboard the lilate shipp the Edward then riding neere Limehouse whereof the lilate Edward
Wood then was Master and Commander and commonly
accompted. and saith That as this deponent then understood and beleeveth the
said Tunns of beere were so sent aboard the said shipp for the use
and provision of the same, but of what valew they were of, or whether the
said Wood and Companie have paid the said hickocks for the same
or what dammage is sustained by default of payment or what other
transactions have passed about it, hee saith hee knoweth mothing thereof
And further referring himselfe to the Acts and proceedings of this
Court, and saying the said Wood is generally reputed an Englishman
and as hee beleeveth is subjecte to the Jurisdiction of this Court, hee saith
hee cannot otherwise depose to the Contents in and of the said
Libell and schedule:-/:-

Edward Valentine of the parish of Saint Olaves
Southwarke Baker aged 50. yeares or thereabouts a
Wittnes sworne and examined saith as followeth videlicet

To the said Libell and articles therein conteyned and schedule thereunto
annexed hee saith and deposeth, That in or about the latter end of the
yeare 1648 and beginning of the yeare 1649. last past, the lilate
William hiskocks and partners were the true Owners and Proprietors
of three and thirty Tunns of bear, which then were valewed at
the rate of three and fortie shillings each tonne, and of three
hogsheads of beare according to the same rate, and of 38 1/2 barrells
of harbor beare and Casks at the rate of 6: s 6: d the barrell, Which said
sewerall quantities and sorts of beare were about the time predeposed
delivered and sent aboard the shipp the Edward whereof
the lilate Wood then was Master for the use and provisions
of the said shipps Companie, and were at the time of such their
delivery worth the sewerall valewes predeposed, and for and after
that rate goods of the like quality were then usually sold, and
beleeveth the same were really used and spent in and aboard the
said shipp, The premisses hee deposeth for that hee this deponent
the time of the said delivery of the goods aforesaid was and still is
a retainer to the brewhouse of the said William Hickocks
and tooke receipts for the said goods from the Cooper that brought them
aboard and saw them delivered out of the said hickocks his
house to the end and use aforesaid, which receipts this
deponent
