8th of August 1655 [CENTRE HEADING]
The Lord Protector et cetera concerning}
the shipp called the Switzer (as}
is sayd) of hamburgh}
Jacob Hinsey of hamborough
Mariner aged about 38 yeares
borne there, as he saith, being
sworne and examined he deposeth and saith
as followeth./
To the first Interrogatory ministred on the behalfe of his
highnesse the Lord Protector he deposeth and saith that
he the Rendent was Master of the shipp the Switzer
interrate at the time of her seizure, and that he hath been
Master of her ever since January last was three yeares
and that he tooke the charge of Master upon him at Marselleis
in ffrance, where the said shipp was bought, she being taken by the
ffrench and carryed thither, and that the Master of her at
the time she was taken by the french was a hamburger
named Jacob Schonmaker, And he saith that he the
Rendent was borne at hamborough, and that the names
of those that made him Master of the sayd
shipp are John Scot[?rinck] Paul Longerman, Joachim
Lawrence and David Sallychover, And
that the sayd Scotrinck and Longerman are hamburgers
And that the said Joachim, Lawrence, and david
Sallychover are of Sangall in Switzerland and
there dwell, And otherwise he cannot answeare.
To the second he answereth that the shipp interrate belongeth
to the Port of hamborough, and that she came last from
thence on the 22th of November last (to his best remembrance)
and that the same persons named in the preceeding Interrogatory
are the Owners of her at present, and that the said
Scotrink and Longerman have lived of this deponents
knowledge at hambrough above twenty yeares, and the
sayd Joachim, Lawrence and David Sallyhover of this Rendents knowledge have lived at
Sangall about twenty yeares; That the said shipp the
Switzer was of his knowledge built at hamburgh In the
yeare 1647; And that the said Scrotrink Longerman
and the sayd Schonmaker were Owners of her at the
time she was first built but he saith he did not see
any money payd for her by the [?new] Owners And further he cannot answeare
To the third Interrogatory he answereth that there belonged to the said
shipp 25 men and boys at the time of her now seizure, And that
all the said shipps Company were hamburgers saving three
french boyes, And to the rest he answereth negatively./
To the fourth Interrogatory hee answereth and saith that the
shipp was at the time of her seizure interrate laden with the
severall goods, of the severall sorts and quantityes mentioned
in a Manifesto therof, which he now exhibeteth and wherunto
he referreth himselfe, And he saith that he doth not know of
any goods laden aboard the said shipp were of the growth
or manufacture of ffrance, or noe, And he further
answereth by vertue of his oath that the said Manifesto now
by him exhibited is true, and that it conteyneth all, and that
noe more or other goods were laden aboard her at Marsellis
