the Scaep or Mutton and for the goods seized in the same}

Examined upon an Allegation
given in on the behalfe of the said
Claus Johnson hoone and Company.

Mariner Master of the said shipp the Scaep
or Mutton aged 60. yeares or thereabouts a Wittnes
sworne and examined./

To the first article of the said Allegation hee saith and deposeth, That the
arlate Claus Johnson hoone, Albert Jansen Master Shipwright, Peter
Claussen Bowen Martsen Yonge Jan and this deponent all Burghers
of Edam as also this deponents brother John Jansen Scaep also Burgher of
Edam, and Claus Jansen Cornelius Cornelisson, Jacob Petersen Blauw
Cornelius Peterson Blauw, Gerrit Peterson Blauw Peter Peterson
Blauw the elder and Peter Peterson Blauw the younger and Simon Janson
Grootenbroecke Burghers of hoorne in holland, with others their Consorts
Burghers of those respective places and Subjects of the States Generall of
the United Netherlands have from the yeares 1646. last past bin and till this
present are the true and Lawfull Owners and Proprietors of the shipp the Scaep
or mutton arlate and of her tackle apparrell and furniture, and for and as
such were and are commonly and generally accompted reputed and taken.
The premisses hee well knoweth for that hee this deponent upon the accompt
and by direction of the said Owners caused the said shipp to be originally
built at Edam aforesaid in the said yeare 1646. And hath ever since she
was compleated and sett out to sea been Master of and conducted her for
and upon the accompt of the said Owners And further cannot depose./

To the second article hee saith and deposeth, That in or about the moneth of
december 1654: last past the said Claus Jonson hoone and Companie
aforesaid did sett forth the said Vessell from Edam to Rochell in ffrance
thence to bring a lading of salt, and gave this deponent a letter of Creditt to the
arlate Isbrant Rodenburgh a hollands factor then residing at Rochell
to furnish this deponent with such moneys as were or might be requisite for the
payment for the said salt, And this deponent with his said shipp safely
arriveing at Rochell delivered the said letter of Creditt to him the said
Isbrandt Rodenburgh, and shortly after went to a place called Souters
about 4. or five leagues from Rochell and there bought and caused to be
laden aboard his said shipp the quantity of thirteen hundred and eighteen
Moyes of salt french measure for and upon the proper accompt and
adventure of the said Claus Johnson hoone and Compsny, and after the
lading of the said salt the said Isbrant Rodenburgh an Amsterdammer upon the accompt aforesaid
paid unto a ffrench Merchant named Monsieur Videau the somme of three
thousand one hundred seaventie and six livers ffrench money or thereabouts
for the salt, which was to be repayd to dirrick Roden[?birch] of Amsterdam
the said Isbrants father by bill of exchange drawne upon the said Claus
Jonson hoone and Companie, The premisses hee declareth and knoweth
