Transcription

To the 8th and 9th articles of the libell hee saith the sayd shipp Thomas and
Lucie being arrived at Bristoll as aforesayd the company thereof did by the Command of the sayd
William Maples their Master there unlade all the ffish taken into her
at Newfound land except what was throwne over board as aforesayd
And after a while did by his like order againe receave aboard the sayd
shipp all her sayd ladeing of fish that was and remayned dry and well conditioned
and other drye ffish sent aboard her and therewith departed from Bristoll with
intente to prosecute her first proposed voyage but after two or three dayes
departure from thence shee mett with an other storme the violence whereof
brake divers of the beames of the sayd shipp and soe shattered and brusied
her that shee grew very leakie and tooke in soe much water that the Company
of her had much a doe with continuall pumpeing to keepe her above water
soe that they were constreyned for preservation of her, her ladeing, and their
lives, to returne againe to Bristoll where after their comeing thither
againe they unladed the sayd shipp by their sayd Masters order of all but her
sayd lading of ffish taken aboard at Bristoll at her foresayd goeing
out from thence, and the sayd shipp was then and there viewed by Master
Shipp Carpenters and upon view her beames found to be broken and shee
altogeatehr unsufficient to performe such a voyage as to the straights And
this deponent heard one Bayly and his brother in lawe (two of the
Carpenters who viewed her) saye that shee could not bee repayred and made
fitt to goe her intended voyage under the charge of three hundred pounds
sterling nor in lesse tyme then nyne or tenn weekes And further to those
articles hee cannot depose./

To the 10th hee saith that the arlate William Maples after the second
arrivall of the sayd shipp Thomas and Lucy at Bristoll and discharge
of her goods there did not (that this deponent heard or knoweth of)
at any tyme propose to the Company of the sayd shipp to goe therewith on the first
voyage for which they were hyred at London videlicet, to Naples Lepra and soe
back for England, but did in this deponents presence and the presence of others of
the sayd shipps company propound to goe with the sayd shipp when shee
was repayred and reladen to some parts of Spaine or Portugall, And hee
beleeveth that in case the shipp Thomas and Lucie is to proceede with her
sayd ladeing of ffish from Bristoll upon a tradeing voyage to sea yet shee
is not to proceede with her sayd ladeing to Naples or Lepra but to some
part of Spaine or Portugall and the reason of such his beleefe is for that hee
this deponent hath heard the arlate Roger hatton saye and confesse that the
sayd shipp since her first comming to Bristoll is sold and is to bee
delivered to the buyers thereof at Lisbon in Portugall where hee present
voyage from Bristoll is to end And further to this article hee cannot
depose saving his subsequent deposition

To the 11th hee saith that this deponent and the rest of the company of
the Thomas and Lucie at such tyme as the sayd Maples did as aforesayd
propose unto them to proceede on a new voyage for Spaine or Portugall
