saith, That there had bin no opposition at all against the said man of
warr, if the said frenchmen had not come aboard the said shipp Saint Peter
and made the same as aforesaid. And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the 7th hee saith, That the said English friggatt or man of warr gave
chase to the said shipp Saint Peter about three or fower howers before the
said frenchman came aboard the said shipp during which chase this deponent
and Company made no shott or opposition at all against the said man of
warr, and that the said frenchmen, upon the neere approach of the said man
of warr, running ashoare together with the said Pylott, after such their
deserting of the said shipp Saint Peter, this deponent and Companie still
remaining aboard, some of the said man of warrs Crew came in a
boate to and boarded the said shipp, whom this deponent and Companie
could easily have hindred, if they had resolved to fight, but saith they
made no opposition at all, but suffered the said shipp to be seized and brought
away by the said man of warrs Companie. The premisses hee well knoweth
for the reasons premessed. And further cannot depose./:-
To the 8th hee saith, That after the seizure of the said Saint Peter and
her lading by the said friggott or man of warr, whereof the said [?Leonard]
Barnett was Captaine, which seizure was as this deponent remembreth
upon or about the 4th day of december last past (old style) the said Leonard
Barnett, or some of his Companie did in a very cruell and inhumane
manner abuse this deponent the Master, and shipps Companie of the
said shipp Saint Peter, setting poniards and swordes against their brests
and spoyled and plundered this deponent of his Cloathes linnen and [?woollen]
to the full valew of fourteen pounds sterling, besides the valew of six
pounds sterling or thereabouts, which they plundered and tooke away from
this deponent in readie money being french and dutch coyne, And saith
that the said seizors tooke away from this deponents said Companie their
Cloathes linnen and woollen to the full valew, (as this deponent
verily beleeveth of about 400. hundred guilders or fortie pounds
sterling, and the readie money which they had about them, (but what that
amounted to hee knoweth not) hee further saith that the said Captaine
Barnett and Companie or some of them after the surrender and seizure
aforesaid tooke and carried out of the said shipp Saint Peter, one
foresayle, three bonnetts, one new top gallant sayle, kettles, potts, [?XXX]
sea Cards, Compasses leads lines and all other more able Utensills
tackle and furniture of the said shipp, so farr as to the tinder box and
matches in all to the valew of one hundred pounds sterling, [?XX XXX]
All which goods the said seizors tooke and disposed of at their pleasure
and this deponent remaining two daies prisoner aboard the said man of
warr saw and observed a great part of the tackle furniture and
goods aforesaid brought aboard the said friggott and the rest was brought ashoare to [?XXXXX] And saith that [?all]
