last past, the allate John Thomas a Merchant of London well knowne
to this deponent was and att present is and ought to bee the true and lawfull
Owner and Proprietor of 140. bundles of redd Russia hides, and was and is so commonly
accompted and reputed, Which said 140. bundles of hides were about the
middle of September last brought and laden aboard the shipp the John and
Ambrose of London at Archangell in Russia for and as the proper goods
of the said John Thomas who then was in person at Archangell aforesaid
And so much the Master of the said shipp Robert Church did at the time
of their said ladeing and before and since sewerall times expresse and affirme
in this deponents presence and hearing and in the hearing of the said shipps
Companie, and saith the said hides were the very last goods brought and
laden aboard the said shipp at Archangell aforesaid and were stowed
uppermost, being onely in bundles, and not made up in bales, as the rest of
the hides laden aboard the said shipp were. The premisses hee beleeveth being
one of the Quarter Masters of and aboard the said shipp, and for that hee
helped and assisted in the stowing thereof. And further cannot depose

To the 4. 5. and 6th hee saith, That the said shipp the John and Ambrose
shortly after her full lading received aboard her at Archangell aforesaid
departed thence and steered directly towards this Port of London, but on
such her Course by contrary windes and tempestuous weather was beaten
and struck upon Colchester sands where shee is perished, having remained
some few daies entire and unbroken, during which time the said Robert Church
her Master caused a hoy to come aboard her, in which hoy hee caused the said
bundles of hides as being the uppermost and neerer goods together with some
other goods to be imbarqued, whereby the same were preserved of this deponents
sight and knowledge, And further hee cannot depose saving this deponent
hath Credibly been informed, That the said hides and other goods
so preserved are since brought up to London, and are now remaining
in the Custody and possession of one Mr ffowler a Merchant or
Officer here.
