premisses, videlicet by the seizing and detaineing of his goods wares and Merchandizes as predeposed, by the hindrance of his imployment, as ffactor
in the quality predeposed, and his owne particular negotiation and other incidents
inconvenienceyes and losses did and doe really amount to five Thousand
five hundred pounds sterling or thereabouts, As this deponent by his long
knowledge and serious observation of the former employment and trade of the said
producent, and by his the producents sufferings, of most whereof this deponent hath
been an eye Wittnesse, did and doeth to the best of his Judgement, and
estimation calculate and esteeme the losses of the said producent. And
further hee cannot depose./

admitted on the behalf of the said Vincent
van Campen and others interessed in the

Mariner at present Master or Commander of the shipp the
king david of London aged 47. yeares or thereabouts
a Wittness sworne and examined saith as followeth videlicet.
To the first second and third articles of the said Allegation hee saith and deposeth
That hee this deponent being a native of Lubeck, and having there from his
infancie had his constant residence and abode, and having for the space of
36. yeares last past or thereabouts had relation to seafaring affaires, and beeene
imployed in Navigation, hee well knoweth that the forme and fashion
of shipps built in the United Netherlands, those of Lubeck being alwaies
more firme and strong and of a more roug and plaine composure, then those of the
United Netherlands, which are ordinarily and usually light timbred faire and neatly
built, And so much hee saith is notorious, and well knowne amongst sea fareing
persons and Merchants frequenting the trade and navigation of Lubeck and the
Netherlands. Hee further saith, That the shipp the Sampson, (whereof Otto
George was Master and Commander) was in the yeare 1645. last past of this
deponents sight and knowledge begunn to be built and made at Lubeck aforesaid
and was there in the yeare following videlicet in the yeare 1646. likewise of this
deponents sight and knowledge compleated and full built from the stocks, and was
and is altogether of the fashion mould and usuall fabrick of shipps built at
Lubeck
