being as aforesaid fitted and putt into the said shipp, the said shipp the
Mayflower did the second time about the latter end of the said moneth
of November fall fowle of the said vessell the Margaret, and againe
cracked the said boltspritt, insomuch that it was in the Judgement
of an experienced Mast-maker found insufficient for a voyage, and
thereupon the said foxe the Master caused the same to be repaired
and strengthened with fitches bound about with roapes and cordage
thereby to make it serviceable for the intended imployment and being at sea
the said ffox and Companie were afterwards necessitated to alter the
same and fitch it anew, and in that condition with great difficulty and
danger arrived at Virginia, where the said bruised or crackt
boltspritt was taken out, and a new one putt in the said shipp, And
this deponent in Conscience beleeveth, and to the best of his Judgement doeth
estimate that the said Crandley and Companie for the hoisting out of
the first boltspirtt, placeing in the second, and repaireing and fitching
of it when it was crackt, putting in a new one at Virginia, and
rigging and unrigging of the same did really expend and pay to
the valew of about six or seven and twentie pounds sterling, And for
lesse hee beleeveth they could not procure the same. The premisses hee
declareth upon the grounds aforesaid, And otherwise cannot depose:-

To the seaventh hee saith hee knoweth not whether the said shipp the
Margaret were retarded here in England from her intended voyage
aforesaid by meanes of the dammages sustained as is predeposed, or what
losse they sustained thereby, Onely hee saith, That being to come from
Virginia, they were retarded from their intended homewards voyage
for about five or six daies for and about the procuring of a new boltspritt
by which meanes this deponent beleeveth the Owners suffered some dammage
but to what valew hee cannot estimate, And further cannot depose

To the 8th hee referreth himselfe to the Acts of this Court, And further
cannot depose.

To the last hee saith his foregoeing deposition is true:-/

Repeated with his precontest before
doctor Clerke and doctor Godolphin.
