Transcription

The 23th day of May 1653. [CENTRE HEADING]

Examined upon the foresaid allegation.

Don Antonio de Ponte of the Island of Teneriff Merchant
aged 29 yeares or thereabouts sworne and examined.

To the first and 2 articles of the said allegation hee saith and deposeth that hee well
knoweth the producent Lorenzo da Velez and hath soe donne for theise nine
yeares last past or thereabouts, and knoweth that in and for all or most part
of the time arlate hee the said producent hath bin and at present is the true
and lawfull owner and proprietor of all and singular the money, plate and
goods schedulated (which schedule hath bin nowe read over unto him in his owne
language) and for such commonly accompted and reputed, namely of thirtie
peeces of silver of the first marke in the margin of the said schedule, fifteene
[?peeces] of silver of the second marke in the margin, Two small barrs of
silver weighing about 40 markes and two baggs of silver each contayning 258 peeces
of eight of the third marke, tenn baggs contayning each 200 peeaces of eight
of the 4th marke, three baggs of the fifth marke contayning each 200 peeces
of eight, 6 baggs of the 6th marke contayning each 200 peeces of eight
one barr of silver of the 7th marke contayning about 56 markes, thirteene
baggs without marke contayning each 200 peeces of 8 of Peru money
foure baggs of the eighth marke contayning 230 peeces of eight, and
three small barrs without marke or number, and that in or about
the moneth of July last past and shortly after the arivall of the Spanish
fleete from the West Indies, the said producent who brought the said
plate and silver (all saving the thirteene baggs without marke) from
the said Indies with him did in the bay of Cales lade and cause all
the said silver and plate to be laden aboard the shipp the Sampson arlate
Otto George master (bound for Ostend) for his the said producents
owne accompt
