came to signe the bill of lading for the same that put the marke
YS thereon, being as hee was informed the marke of the chest
wherein the said baggs were put, and that the said master or purser that
signed the said bill (being as hee this deponent was informed) told that the baggs were
without marke they acknowledged it to be soe, and that that was only
the marke of the chest wherein the same were put. And otherwise hee
cannot depose.
To the third article and schedule aforesaid hee saith and deposeth that
after the lading of the said plate, silver and goods this deponent sawe the
bills of lading for the same signed by the said Otto George or his
Purser, and hee beleeveth that one of every of the bills signed for the
same came alonge in the said shipp in the custodie of the master thereof
and are since brought into this Court, and saith the said signing was soe
donne at Cales, and that the same were and are true and reall.

To the fourth hee saith that after such time as the said parcells of
silver and gods were laden aboard the said shipp as aforesaid, the
said shipp departed and sett saile therewith thence and the said
producent came alonge in the said shipp with the same, and comming
into the Channell shee was met with and seized by one of
the frigots of this Commonwealth, And at the time of the said
seizure all the said moneys plate and goods were aboard her and came
in the said shipp into the possession of the said man of warr who
made the said seizure, which hee knoweth because hee alsoe came passenger
in the said shipp, and sawe the premisses soe donne.
To the fifth hee saith that in case the said shipp the Sampson had not
with her said lading bin seized, shee had gonne directly for Ostend or
dunquirke, and had there delivered the said silver to the said producent
And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the 6 hee referreth himselfe to his foregoing deposition, and otherwise
hee cannot depose.
To the 7th hee saith that the said Laurance da Velez was and is a
native of Dunquirke (as hee hath bin informed) and was and is a subiect of the
kinge of Spaine and for such commonly accompted and reputed, and
hath for many yeares last namely for nineteene yeares of this deponents
knowledge traded from Spaine to the West Indies and carried many
goods with him from fflanders and Spaine to the said Indies,
which hee knoweth having gonne five severall voyages with him
thither. And otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the first hee saith hee imbarqued in the said shipp Sampson at
Cales and had bin about a moneth in her when shee was seized, and
was only a passenger and none of her company.
To the second hee saith hee doth knowe two persons at Cadiz both
by the name of John Baptista [?Steine] and hath knowne them about
foure or five yeares, and otherwise hee cannot depose saving as
aforesaid.
To the third hee saith hee sawe one of the said persons by the name of John
Baptista [?Steine] of Cadiz goe aboard the shipp the Sampson in the bay of
Cadiz and carry a chest and some other things aboard the contents
whereof hee knoweth not, And otherwise hee cannot answer, but
conceriveth the name of the said John Baptista [?Staine] is only used that [?Velez] might not be discovered.
To the fourth hee saith that the said Lorenzo da Veles is a batchelour
and a houskeeper in Cadiz where hee keepeth his [?XXXX] familie
and hath soe donne about [??46] yeares.
