Purser of the Sampson signed two other bills of Lading of the tenor
of the bill of lading interrate, which were as he hath predeposed
by the sayd purser delivered to the sayd produrent. And otherwise he
cannot depose.
To the eighteenth he saith that he knoweth the Bill interrate to be one
of the three bills before by him deposed of by the markes and
numbers, and beleiveth not that there came anie other bill of like
markes and numbers aboard the Sampson this voyage. And further he
cannot depose.
To the nineteenth he saith that the Bill of lading showne him now
att the tyme of his examination was brought by sea in the Custody of
the producent of this deponents sight and knowledge, and the producent
told this deponent that he delivered the same to this producent. And anie other bill
of lading this deponent hath not seene touching the sayd sylver in this
Citty or elswhere in England. And further he cannot depose.
To the twentyeth he saith that the Interrate Lewis ffernandez came from
Cadiz in the Sampson interrate and was in her att the tyme of the sayd
seizure and this Rendent with him. And further he cannot depose.
To the one and twentyeth he saith that the produ[c]ent received from the
hands of the Purser of the Sampson three bills of lading all of one tenor
for the sylver in question as he hath predeposed. And he this deponent
knoweth not that any of them were delivered back to the Interrogat
Otto George, or the sayd Purser. And further he cannot depose.
To the two and twentyeth he sayd that the sylver Interrate was brought
from the West Indies in a shipp of the Spanish ffleet whereof John
Sericho was Commannder, and the name of the sayd shipp as he taketh it
was the Saint Juan Baptista. And further to this Interrogatory he
cannot depose.
To the three and twentyeth he saith and deposeth that the sylver claymed
was laden aboard the Sampson about the latter end of July 1652 non
[Psile?], and saith that he being aboard the 'Sampson from embarqument att Caddize till the seizure as
aforsayd knoweth not nor hath heard that from she the tyme she sett
sayle for Cadize any sylver or other goods were delivered out of the sayd shipp before the
tyme of the sayd seizure. And further he cannot depose.
To the four and twentyeth he saith the the bill of Ladeing annexed to the
allegation and showne him att the tyme of his examination this deponent saw
in the hands and Custody of the Interrate Lewis ffernandez aboard the shipp
Sampson aforsayd, both in the bay of Caddize before she putt forth to sea
and likewise afterwards att sea in her Course towards Ostend, and doth not
beleive that the saime was delivered back againe to the Interrate Otto George
or the Purser of the sayd shipp Sampson, and otherwise he cannot depose.
To the five and twentyeth he saith and deposeth that the sylver Interrate was
all of it laden aboard the shipp Sampson aforsayd in the bay of Caddize and
under the Commaund of the forts thereto belonging, and not upon the
open sea. And otherwise he cannot depose, saying that he knoweth not of any pasport or Cocquet[?] for the sayd silver.
