Transcription

To the 17th 18. and 19th hee cannot depose, otherwise then that the
moneys now Claimed and part of the proceed of the goods and Merchan=
dizes sent from fflander as is predeposed.

To the 20th hee referreth to his foregoing deponent. And further to this Interrogatory
hee cannot depose.

To the 21th negatively. And otherwise deposeth not.

To the 22th negatively, saving his foregoing deposition.

To the 23. and 24 hee saith, That for the reasons by him predeposed
hee well knoweth the bills of lading now showne unto him to be the same that
were sent by the Land poast from Cadiz to the producent at Antwerp, who since
hath sent the same by the packett or ordinary poast to Matthew Jansen
a ffeather maker here in London, to be by him delivered to Mr Smith one of
the Proctors of this Court, by whom they are produced. And otherwise cannot
depose.

To the 25. 26. and 27. hee referreth himselfe to his foregoing deposition, And
otherwise cannot depose.

To the 28. hee referreth himselfe to his foregoing deposition. And further cannot
depose, being at Antwerp when the transactions interrate were so had at
Cadiz as hee beleeveth.

To the 1. and 2. Interrogatories administred in the second place hee saith That
hee hath often heard, that it is prohibited in Spaine to transport any silver
plate or bullion from there without an especiall Licence, Notwithstanding which
prohibition both this deponents Master the producent and severall other
Merchants of Antwerp have from time to time received yearely returnes of silver
from thence. And further hee cannot depose having never been in Spaine.

Anthonie Loïs of Antwerp in Brabant
Merchant aged thirtie yeares or thereabouts
A wittnesse sworne and examined saith and
deposeth as followeth videlicet

To the first article of the said Allegation and schedules therein mentionned hee saith and deposeth, That the
arlate John Smeesters a Merchant and Citizen of Antwerp in Brabant being
the partie producent in this Cause, in the moneth of June July August
September October November December January ffebruary and March in
the yeare 1652 last past, all or some of them was and till this present is and
and outght to be the same and lawfull Owner and Proprietor of all and singular
the parcells of pieces of eight mentioned respectively in the said schedules annexed
and now showed to this Examinate, and for Owner thereof the said producent
was and is commonly accompted reputed and taken, videlicet of eight hundred
pieces
