Transcription

present being Consull for the Societie of the Hanse Townes, and holding in
that quality his ordinary residence at Tholon and Marseilles in Provence
in the kingdome of ffrance well knoweth That the arlate shipp the Sampson
whereof Otto George arlate then was Master being taken and surprized
by some french men of warr was in or about the moneths of November
or December in the yeare 1651,. last past brought up to the Port of Tholon
in ffrance, and being there brought up was by the Councill of the
french king residing at Paris in facte adiudged for lawfull Prize, and
the said adjudication actually executed at Tholon aforesaid And thereupon the
said Otto George desired this deponent as Consull for the said Hanse Townes
to one of which the said shipp belonged, to be assistant to him in and about the
redemption thereof for the use and accompt of Vincent van Campen
John de Windt Daniel de Leon ffrancisco Panninck and others the
then and now Owners of the said shipp the Sampson, And accordingly this
Deponent treated at Tholon with the seizors of the said shipp and those to
whom shee was adjudged as Prize about the redemption of the same,
And finally concluded and agreed with them for the summe or valew of
twelve thousand patacoons or pieces of eight, which the said Otto
George, after the said accord made, goeing by land from Tholon to Genoa
remitted thence to Tholon by bills of exchange, and some of the said bills
being adressed to this deponent hee received at Marseilles and caused the moneys
therein mentioned to be really payd at Tholon to the said seizors and interesees
being ffrenchmen residing at Tholon, and the rest of the said summe was also there
actually paid by the said meanes of bills of exchange to the said interesees
at Tholon aforesaid, who were wholly satisfied and paid for the said
summe agreed upon before the said shipp was freed and departed out of
the said Port of Tholon, and upon such payment the said Interessees
redelivered unto this deponent the Obligation which hee upon the accord
made had given them under his hand for the payment of the same, And
this deponent saith, that after the said transaction done, the moneys payed and
the shipp freed as aforesaid, the said Vincent van Campen writt to this
deponent and in the name of himselfe and said Consorts Owners of the said shipp
Sampson thanked this deponent for his assistance in the redemption of the
same, and thereby this deponent is assured that they did approve and accept
of the said transaction And further to this article hee saith hee cannot
depose:-/

To the second hee saith, That the said shipp being so redeemed,
by the direction of the said Otto George shee
