this deponent well knoweth the arlate Laurence Hobby who within the tyme
Libellate was comonly and generally accompted and reputed the
servant and apprentice of the producent John Bryan who is likewise
well knowne unto this deponent The premisses hee deposeth because hee
hath often heard both the said Bryan and Hobby[?e] say that they were Master
and servant each of and to the other as is predeposed And further
hee saith hee cannot depose..

To the second and third articles of the said Libell hee saith and deposeth
That hee this Examinate being one of the Company of and in the
shippe the Mary Constant arlate was in and with the said ship in or about
the Moneth of March 1649 on the Gold coast of Guinney at which
tyme and to which place the arlate Laurence Hobbey (being sent out by
the producent John Bryan his Master as Carpenters mate of the
Arana Merchant ) came and arrived att G[?u]inny and with him did
bring from England for his said Masters use and account an Adventure
of severall goods and Merchandizes as Strong waters, pistolls and
other comodities to the vallew of about 13. li sterling to bee by him there
bartered away for the said producents behoofe and Advantage. besides his
bedding clothes and tooles as is arlate, And at the same tyme the arlate Henrye
Evans came thither in the said ship the Arrana Merchant as Cheife Carpenter
thereof, And saith that within a short tyme after the arrivall of the said
shipp at Ginney the said Laurence Hobbey did there barter and sell away
his said strong waters and for and in Exchange thereof had diverse
other goods wares and merchandizes All which hee kept with him abord the said
ship the Arrana Merchant untill such tyme as hee was removed out of that ship
by the arlate Richard Howe commander thereof and put abord the Mary Constant
to goe to the Bo[??mene] River and then hee tooke the said goods and merchandizes
with him which hee knoweth to bee true because hee this deponent sawe the said Hobby
have the said goods in his possession and is one himselfe that went along from
Ginney in the same ship with the said Hobby for the Bouneeme and did often heare
him averre and say that they were for his said master his account and that hee was
to Barter away the same for other goods for him. And further hee cannot
depose.

To the fowerth and fifth articles of the said Libell hee saith and deposeth
That after such tyme as the said Laurence Hobby had bartered and
trucked away the said goods at Ginney and the Bou[?neeme] and hee and
receaved diverse goods and Merchandises in Exchange thereof
hee departed this life in the [?Bouneeme] River in or about the moneth of May 1649 and at the tyme of such
his decease hee saith hee had all and singular the goods wares
and Marchandizes mentioned and Expressed in the
schedul[?a] annexed in his custody and possession which said goods
hee saith were the proceed[?a] of such goods as hee had brought out
of Englan whith him for the account of the said John Bryan his master besides
his beddeing clothes and tooles as aforesaid which hee knoweth
to bee true because hee was present when the said Hoby departed
this life and is himselfe the person in whose Armes hee departed and then
sawe all the said goods schedulated abord the said ship and in his custody
att the tyme of his death. And otherwise hee cannot depose
