the Skipper commanded to come aboard the said Mootham, he the said
Skipper tooke his papers and writings and went aboard the said Captaine
and this deponent went alonge with him, and comming aboard hee
delivered the said writings to the said Captaine in this deponents
sight and presence, and saith tht the next dat (they being still aboard) one John Johnson one of the said Moothams company
who spake very good dutch read a writing aboard in ffrench which
hee said was the Charter Partia[?a] of the said shipp the ffortuna[?a],
and declared the effect thereof in dutch to this deponent and the
said Skipper, saying that it ws for holland, And otherwise
hee cannot as hee saith depose.

To the Interrogatories. [CENTRE HEADING]

To the first hee saith hee can write and reade dutch
but doth not understand ffrench, and that hee hath bin two voyages
in ffrance, videlicet this and the other about two yeares since in
a shipp of horne the name whereof hee remembreth not;
and otherwise hee cannot depose saving as aforesaid.

To the second hee answereth that hee was neither partia nor witnes
to the making of the said Charter parti[?a], nor ever read the same
hee understanding not ffrench as aforesaid, And otherwise hee
cannot answer saving as aforesaid.

To the third hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition and otherwise
hee cannot depose.

To the fourth hee saith the said shipp the ffortun[?a] was taken
on the coast of ffrance, going for haver da Grace.

Martin Cornelison Coman of Amsterdam
Marriner Skipper of the said shipp the
hope of Amsterdam aged 40 yeares or
thereabouts, sworne and examined.

To the first article of the said allegation hee saith and deposeth
that the wheate and rie arlate taken and seized by Captaine
Johnson and nowe in controversie was laden and put aboard the
shipp the hope arlate at Or[X]y in Bretany by
a ffrench Merchant dwelling (as hee said) at
Nantes, to be thence transported to haver da Grace and there to be
delivered. which hee knoweth being Skipper of the said shipp
and receiving the said graine aboard her. And otherwise hee cannot
depose.

To the second article hee saith and deposeth that the said shipp the
hope was at Rochell in ffrance freighted of his this deponent by
a ffrenchman (whose name hee nowe remembreth not, but
referreth himselfe to the bill of lading for the same) to goe thence
to A[?nney] aforesaid and there take in the said corne and transporte
and deliver it at haver da Grace aforesaid for his the said
laders accompt And otherwise hee cannot depose, saving hee
knoweth one John [XXXXX] a dutchman living as a factor at
Nantes, who had noe hand in the said lading, that this deponent knoweth
of, but with his name is used therein.
