14th October 1651.
The claime of Walter Tucker, Richard harris}
and William Nottell for their goods in the shipp the}
Brower (Claes Timenson Brower Master) taken}
by Captaine Greene and company.}
Examined upon an allegation and schedules
on the behalfe of the said claimers.

Claes Timenson Brower of Ossan in holland
Mariner, aged 49 yeares or thereabouts sworne
and examined.
To the first and second articles of the said allegation and to the schedule thereunto
annexed hee saith and deposeth that within the time arlate, and more particulaly
in or about the moneth of June last there were laden aboard the shipp
the Brower arlate (whereof hee this deponent was and is master) at Amsterdam
all and singular the goods wares and merchandizes mentioned and expressed
in the schedule in the [?foote] of the said allegation, which were soe laden by
Miles and Thomas Jackson to be thence carried in the said shipp to
Barnestable and there delivered to Walter Tucker, Richard harris and William
N[?o]ttle Marchants, or their factors or assignes, which hee knoweth necause hee
being master as aforesaid, received the said goods aboard, and signed a
bill of lading for the same to the effect aforesaid. And otherwise hee cannot
depose.
To the third fourth and fifth articles of the said allegation hee saith and deposeth that
within the said time the said shipp departed from Amsterdam on the said
voyage to Barnestable after the receiving in the said goods, but this deponent
being then sick and not able to goe in her, his steersman had the conduct
of her, who in his course for Barnestable, comming off dunkirke was
taken by a Jersey man of warr and carried into the roade of dunkirke as the said
Steersman wente unto his owners and marchants at Amsterdam, and after the
said seizure the said Steersman redeemed the said
shipp the Brower and her lading of the said Jersey man of warr
for five thousand gilders, sending the bill of exchange to the said owners
and merchants, they the said owners, and the foresaid Milles and Thomas
Jackson the foresaid marchant laders, casting the same into an everidge
dischardged and paid for the same, and then wente and gave order to his
said Steersman to retourne with the said shipp and goods and come
to an cnhor before Ram[XX]keus neare Middleborowe, to the end to be
revictualled and fitted to proceed on the foresaid voyage, and hee having
brought the said shipp and lading thither, this deponent being recovered of
his sicknes went thither and there went aboard andtaking the care
and charge thereof upon himselfe, and proceeded thence therewith for
Barnestable aforesaid, and comming off Cru[X]y on the ffrench coast
was met with and with his said shipp and lading taken by Captaine
G[XXXXX] and company on the nineteenth of September last (newe stile)
or thereabouts, which hee knoweth taken in her and brought to Portsmouth
on board her. And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the sixth article and bill of lading annexed, hee saith and deposeth that
the said bill or schedul was and is the true and originall bill of lading
for the said goods therein mentioned, and was and is signed and subscribed
with the proper hand writing of him this deponent master of the said shipp
at Amsterdam at or shortly after the lading of the said goods. And otherwise
hee cannot depose.
To the seaventh hee is not examined by direction of the producent.
To the eighth hee cannot depose.
