Text formatting
The MarineLives transcription platform is built on MediaWiki, which uses wiki markup to format text. Adding footnotes
- Go into edit mode
- Insert immediately after the sentence or phrase you wish to annotate the following macro:<ref>This is the footnote text</ref>
- Replace 'This is the footnote text' with the footnote you wish to add, using the format: first name, surname, title, (place of publication, date of publication), page or folio number
- Save the page

Example footnote template:

Ad 6 nescit deponere = To the 6th (i.e. article of the allegation) he is not required to depose
Ad ult dicit predeposita [?p ?en] ad vera. = [I THINK]: To the last (i.e. article of the allegation) hee saith that his depositions aforesaid were and are true (SEE: http://www.marinelives.org/wiki/HCA_13/65_f.42v_Annotate)
Idem supra Interrogatoria./ = The same in response to the interrogatories
Ad primum satisfi[?XXX] est supra... = [I THINK] To the first (i.e. first interrogatory) it is satisfied as above
