Christopher Vennard of Ratcliffe Mariner
Late Master of the shipp called the Hope of Ipswich
sworne before Mr Doctor Sammes Surrogate et cetera sayeth
and deposeth uppon his oath That Bartholmew [?StXXX]
one of the Carpenters of the said shippe the Hope
was shipt into that shippe by Richard Gurlinge
deceased the then Master of the said shippe at
Ipswich at or before the first day of
May 1634 and served in her untill about the
last day of ffebruary then next followeinge
and then by the consent of the said Gurlinge at the
Barbathos went to worke aboard of a small
Pinnace which ws blowne off from that Island
by extremity of weather, and since that tyme
hee never saw the said Pinnace nor any of her
Company, but for what wages Gourlinge shipte
the said [?SXX terme] or what hee received twoards
the same hee knoweth not, for that there was not
any [?qurt] on his wages paid since this
examinate came to bee Master of the said shippe
And hee sfurther sayeth that the accompte
now by him given into the Registry of this
Court under his hande, is a true accompte
of the freight that was or is due for the said shipp [?XXXX]
hee came to bee Master of her, and the
same was paid out and allowed as in that
accompte is expressed, And this hee
affirmeth uppon his oath to bee true:
Alsoe hee sayeth That Thomas Beacon
Gunner of the said shipp dyed in her about the
Last day of June [?XXXX], and served in her
three and twenty monethes before little more or lesse, and since the shippe
came to London this examinate repaid to his widdow in
part of his the said Beacons wages twelve
pounds five shillings, but whether hee received
any thinge before of Gourlinge this [?hee]
cannot expresse, nor cann hee expresse
for what wages hee was shipt, but conceiveth
that hee well deserved five ad thirty shillings
sterling a moneth for his service in the said
shipp and voyage, And this hee affirmeth
uppon his oath to bee true;/
