- Go into edit mode
- Insert immediately after the sentence or phrase you wish to annotate the following macro:<ref>This is the footnote text</ref>
- Replace 'This is the footnote text' with the footnote you wish to add, using the format: first name, surname, title, (place of publication, date of publication), page or folio number
- Save the page

The personall Answers of Robert
Lewellin and Thomas Varvell
made to the positions of an
Allegation given against
them on the behalfe of
douglas Burton doe follow.
To the first pretensed position they and
either of them answer and referre
themselves to theire former Answers
made to a former Allegation given in this
Cause against them which they beleeve
to bee true And otherwise for theire
parts they nor either of them doe not
beleeve the said position to bee true
in any parte thereof/.
To the second pretensed position they and
either of them answer and beleeve that
after the death of the said Burton
(in regard the said shipp the Increase
was abroad at Sea and in places
where noe Chirurgeons were to bee
gott there was noe Chirurgeon du=
