this rendent beleeveth that he this
rendent knoweing that there was some
hazard and danger in sendinge of goods
to Saint Malloes in his owne name
beinge an Englishman in regard there
had been severall arrests made of
Englishmens goods by frenchmen for
satisfaction of pretended iniuries done unto
them by the English the arlate William Showers did
de factor after the ladeinge of this
rendents, and the arlate William
Showers his goods in this cause
controverted and after the
same were entred in the custome house att
Exeter for his, and the arlate Mr Showers
account write a letter unto the arlate
Monseir Villen Jean Giuchett President
in Saint Maloes wherein he did inclose an
Invoice directed unto him for the receipt
of the goods belongeinge unto this rendent
and the said William Showers.
To the second pretensed position hee
answereth and beleeveth that the
lette, and Invoice arlate were and
remained abord the shippe the
dyamond att such time as she was
seized upon surprized and taken by the
arlate shipps the merchant Adventure
and the Peter, and the said letter, and
Invoice was and is written with the proper
hand writinge of the arlate Mr Showers,
and directed unto the said Monseuir Villen
Jean Guichett, which this rendent beleeveth
was done by reason of the danger aforesaid
meerely colourably, and to avoid arrests
and
