Transcription

The personall answers of
William Barkely and John Batenton
made to the positions of an allegation
given in against them on the behalfe
of the Keepers of the libertyes of England
by authority of Parliament.

To the first second and third pretended
positions, they and either of them answere and
beleeve that these respondents haveinge
formerly had the said shippe the Anne alias the
Endeavour in this cause controverted taken
from them by a Jersye Pirate and carried
to Jersey the arlate Purrlay and Langley both
ffrenchmen and subiects of the ffrench Kinge
liveinge at Saint Malloes did procure the said
shippe from the said Jersey Pirat and afterward
as theis respondents beleeve put in the
articulate Lawrence Le Garr master of her
who was and is as these respondents beleeve
a ffrenchman and subiect of the ffrench Kinge
and theise respondents beleeve that at the time
of the said shipps seizure by the Parliaments
Shipps the articulate Le Garr was in her
as master and all the rest of the company
were ffrenchmen as they beleeve and that the
said shippe before her seizure came out
from Saint Malloes And that the said Purrlay
and Langly kept the said shippe after they had
got the same at Jerzey as aforesaid by the
space of two yeares and not above as they
beleeve, And otherwise for their parts they
nor either of them doe not beleeve the said
positions or any of them to bee true in any
parts thereof.

To the fourth pretensed position they and
either of them answere and beleeve that after
such time as the articulate Purrlay and
Langley
