Biographical synthesis

Edward Odling (b.ca.1599;d.?). Citizen of London, apothecary and later doctor of physick.

Resident in March 1657 in the parish of Saint Andrews Wardrobe, London.

Evidence from High Court of Admiralty

Edward Odling deposed in the High Court of Admiralty on March 2nd 1657.[1] His deposition was in response to an allegation put in in the case of "Ketch and others against the shipp the Minories and against James Boydon."[2]

The three earlier deponents in the same case were:

  1. The fifty-four year old John Ketch of Nightingale Lane in the parish of Algate, London, who had been the master of the Minories[3]
  2. The forty-eight year old William Barber of Wappping in Middlesex, who has been master's mate of the Minories[4]
  3. The fifty year old Clemens Simpson of Wapping in Middlesex, who had been gunner on the Minories[5]

Annexed: 1 Brief remonstrance of petitioner's service, sufferings, and expense."[6]

1652

"Odling, Edward. To the Right Honourable the President and Governors of the Corporation for the Regulating and Relieving of the Poor of the City of London, and Liberties Thereof: The Humble Remonstrance of Edward Odling Citizen and Apothecary of London, Now Doctor in Physick, a Member of the Said Corporation for the Poor. (London: s.n., 1652.)"[7]

1654

"The Thomason Tracts: Dec.,1654 — An address, signed in the name of the Corporation for the Poor of the Corporation of the City of London, by Edward Odling, entreating that "the Grand Act for imploying and releiving the Poor of the whole Nation," may be put into force ; and calling for "an additionall Act for the Corporation of the Poor of the City of London." s. sh. 669. f. 19.
