sent over to the said Owners was in the Portugall language<br />
and was a true coppy of the said affreightment for the said voyadge<br />
as hee beleiveth to which hee doth referre himselfe, but the<br />
schedule annexed being in English hee doth not knowe<br />
whether it bee truely translated or doth agree with the<br />
originall contract or not
To the 12th. and 14th. hee answereth and beleiveth That<br />
hee hath not made any account, to the said owners or<br />
any of them, for the said average, nor doth conceave<br />
they have any right to the same, or any thing, to doe<br />
therewith./ but doth beleive the said average<br />
is an allowance peculiarly belonging to<br />
the Master and Company and was in this<br />
cause to bee not onely an encouragement<br />
to them to fight and defend the goods, if <br />
occasion required, but to undergoe the great<br />
hazards and dangers of their lives, by the<br />
great intemperature of the Rayne and<br />
the excessive heate of the countrey whereby<br />
many contagious diseases were contracted<br />
and divers of them dyed and hee this<br />
respondent had a very dangerous sicknes<br />
in the said voyadge for divers weekes<br />
which cost him one hundred pounds and<br />
upwards all which was defrayed out of<br />
the said average, and there were severall<br />
abatements made, as a roove upon a<br />
chest made, as a roove upon a<br />
