Overview
This page provides an index to a series of alphabetical guides to Sir George Oxenden's correspondence held at the British Library, London
The alphabets are of three types - personal names, places, and ships
The standard alphabets list the personal names of letter writers to Sir George Oxenden and the places from which they sent their letters, if specified.
The bigger alphabets list all personal names contained within the body of the letters and similarly the places contained within the same text.
The alphabets are not a conventional index and do not contain hyperlinks to the occurences of the names and places within the correspondence contained in the wiki. Instead, entering the name with the spelling specified in the wiki search tool will produce a listing of all such names or places in the correspondence. It will also produce a further listing of such names or places specified in other primary documents held in the wiki, or contained in synthesised, analytical material posted to the wiki.
One further alphabet, the Elizabeth Dallison letters alphabet, provides an index to all names and places specified in Elizabeth Dallison's correspondence, both with Sir George Oxenden, and with other correspondents. Elizabeth Dallison's correspondence addressed to individuals other than Sir George Oxenden has been taken from published sources, edited by Dorothy K. Gardiner (1933, 1937), and refer to a period between 16XX and 16XX.[1]
