The fourth day of November .1654.
On the behalfe of his highnes}
the Lord Protector against the}
shipp the Saint Jacob whereof}
heyman ffredrickson is master}
and goods in the same}
Examined upon certayne Interrogatories on
the behalfe of his highnes the Lord Protector
Heyman ffredrickson of Amsterdam
mariner master of the sayd shipp the Saint
Jacob, aged fifty yeares or therabouts
a witnesse sworne and examined saith and
deposeth by vertue of his oath as followeth videlicet.
To the first Interrogatory this deponent saith the sayd shipp the
Saint Jacob doth belong to the Port of Amsterdam in holland and
not to any Port or Place in ffrance, and the Owners of her
when she was seized were and still are, Paulus Byscop
Jacon Taminob Hacques Martin, Obbe Volkers Claes [?Nenes]
Gerart van herling Swere Asswereson, Arnoll van Aord[?en]
Jan Volkers, Allert Volkers , Mary Claus, Mart Stoffells,
Cornelius Coster Abraham Jacobs and this deponent
all BUrgehrs and Inhabitants of Amsterdam, And further
saith that there was son board the sayd shipp att the tyme of
her seizure thirteene hundred and an halfe and five bushells
of salt french measure each hundred measure making about
twelve lasts, and noe other merchants goods and the sayd salt
then did belong to merchants of ffrance inhabiting at havre
de Grace and other places in ffrance being subiects of the
ffrench King, but their names he cannot specify and
further saving his subsequent depositions cannot depose.
To the second he saith the sayd salt was laden at [?Bruaye] in
ffrance a place neere to Rochell by Monsier Avisé a
french man and subiect of the king of ffrance, and the
sayd ship Saint Jacob came last from Bruaye aforesayd, and was
bound directly to haver de Grace in ffrance. And further
saith not.
To the third Interrogatory he saith there were on board the sayd shipp
att the tyme of seizure a Cocquett and a Charterparty and
he delivered them both to the Captaine that made the seizure
and hath since seene the same in the Registry of this Court
and referreth himselfe to the Contents thereof and saith
the same were delivered to him by the sayd Lader, and
otherwise negatively. And further cannot depose:.
To the fourth he saith his foresayd Owners who are all of Amsterdam
and have their familyes there, and are all hollanders borne by
common repute, did constitute this Rendent master of the sayd shipp
and gave him order and Instructions for this voyage
