I wrott unto you into y:e Downes at yo:r departure XXXXX, but I feare it came to late, for I afterwards understood y:t you sett sayle thence y:t very day I sent my lre to you in y:e first place I pray take my acknowledgm:t of yo:r favour & Civility showen to my sonn Will:m in owneing mee for your Ould friend when you took leave of S:r Edw:d Winter & desireing him for your sake to show my sonn all y:e Just favour hee Could w:ch hee promises there upon to doo & y:t my sonn should have occasion to testifie soo much But S:r I now perceive [?] that hee hath forgotten his promise to you, for hee tould some of y:e Concordas (sic) Company as I am tould who mett w:th Madrass ffrigatt y:e 22:th of July last in S:t Augustines Bay & therein w:th S:r Edw:d Winter y:t where as hee heard y:t M:r Chambers & my sonn weare Comeing for England hee hoped to come to y:e Coast tyme enough to Stopp theire passage, w:ch hee resolved to doo & for my sonn hee threatens to inflict corporall punishment on him to shame him publiqely (sic); which if hee doo it will bee little honor to S:r Edw:d & if hee should returne into England I doubt not but hee shall bee required to give an acco:t of soo rash & unjust a action, & my sonn therin shall bee y:e Comp:a Martyr for acting by y:e Comands of his superyore [CHECK] y:e then presid:t & Counsell at Surratt & y:e Agent at madrass about y:e seisure & XXXX of S:r Edward s house at MXXXapatan for y:e Comp:a service….
