There is a Gentleman at Surr:tt nearely related to an intimate ffreind of myne by Name M:r Tho:s Rolt who went into y:e East Indies w:th Presid:t Wyche some yeares since, & hath bin employed still in ye Companye busyenesse, as is reported to mee very Capable of any trust or Imployment, & as I am soo much Concerned for his Good and preferm:t y:t I shall make it my request to you to lok kindely upon him, & when occasion if afford y:t you will use yo:r creditt & power to preferr him for my sake as well as for his owne abilityes; I should not use thy freedome w:th you but y:t I have a Confidence in y:e Civilitye & desire y:t you would make use of mee, in the like or any other occasion y:t may bee w:thin yo:r power off

John Men(n)es
John Mennes appears to have been a minor poet and wanabee courtier in the 1620s and 1630s, to have been a loyal royalist in the civil war period, but to have prospered in the Restoration.
