On the nineth of September 1657.

William Croford of the parish of Saint Mary
Magdalen Bermondsey, Master of the shipp the
Gilbert, aged about 39 yeeres, a wittnes produced
sworne and examined deposeth as followeth videlicet

11. To the first article of the sayd alle'gation he deposeth and
12. saith that the arlate shipp the 'Gilbert was bound in the
13. last voyage (which is the voyage arlate) from this port of
14. London unto the Barbadoes, and thense to London again,
15. And that the same was very well knowne unto the
16. Plaintiffs in this cause for that they were hyred for
17. That and noe other voyage, namely to discharge their
18. her inward bound lading her (sic) at London and he saith
19. that all the bills of the sayd shipps ˹homeward bound˺ lading were signed
20. for London and noe other place, And further he
21. cannot depose.

22. To the second article of the sayd allegation he deposeth that
23. in the arlate shipp hee cometh for this post of London from
24. the Barbadoes she came to an anchor of Aberdaugh
25. in Wales on or about the eighteenth day of January 1656
26. and that the wind was then Easterly, and that when the
27. sayd shipp came soe to an anchor the weather was thick
28. and foggy, and that about fower or five hours after
29. the weather clearing up and the wind continueing easterly he this deponent called unto the
30. Mariners and bad them to weigh anchor, telling them
31. that they showld sayle for Milford, he this deponent
32. intending upon the first opportunity of wine from from thense
33. to have sayled for London, which would have bin but a
34. short and easie runne from thense, And he deposeth
35. that notwithstanding his sayd order or command the maior
36. part of the Mariners of the sayd shipp told him this
37. deponent and swore that they would not touch a rope except
38. he this deponent would goe for Bristow, and they persisting
39. (notwithstanding all the perswasions and reasons that he this
40. deponent used) in their mutiny and tumult, he this deponent
41. was forced to sayle for Bristoll, otherwise shipp and
42. goods might have perished, for that the place she rode in
43. nigh Aberdaugh would have bin a dangerous place if it
44. had blowne, and soe have endangered all, And he saith that
45. the principall of the said shipps Company, who would not oney
46. this deponents comand were the arlate Cobb, Tanner, Gillett, [AXX GUTTER]
47. Parsley, Sanders, Chipsey, Cavelleir, Mudgett and Woodf[all GUTTER]
48. in all to the number of about 24 And further he
49. cannot depose.

50. To the third article he saith that he this deponent was upon
