duarte dias de Paz, Simon and Lewis Rodrigues}
de Souza and Manoel Martines Medina for their}
goods aladen aboard the shipp the Thirstie hart (whereof}
hessell Jacobs is Master) taken by some of the shipps in}
the imediate service of the Commonwealth of England}

Examined upon an allegation given in
on the behalfe of the said
claimers the fifth of this instant.

Charles Marescoe of London Merchant
aged 25 yeares or thereabouts sworne
and examined.

To the first article of the said allegation hee sith and deposeth that
for the monethes arlate of the yeare 1655 present and for some yeares and
monethes before the producent Jeronimo Nunez da Costa, diego fferdinando
[?Lemes]. duarte dias de Paz and Simon and Lewis Rodriguez de Souza,
have and doe still drive a constant trade from Lisbone to Roane
and Amstedam and back againe thence to Lisbone, with sugars, tobaccoes
and other Merchandizes as flax, perpetuanas, linnens and other goods,
for which flax, perpetuanas, linnens and other goods sent from Amsterdam
and Roane they use to receive from Lisbone, sugars, tobaccoes, oiles and
other commodities, to which purpose they have their severall factors
residing at Lisbone; and saith that the said Jeronimo Nunez da Costa
and the other before named persons were and are merchants
of god accompt and of greate dealing upon their owne accompts at the
places aforesaid and at other places, and send greate quantities of
merchandizes to and from those plaes for their owne accompts, and this
hee saith was and is true, publique and notorious, which hee knoweth
because hee this deponent for seaven yeares or thereabouts lived with Mr
[?Botvé] of this citie merchant who corresponded with them, and did
many and greate businesses or dispatches in merchandize for them, and
their proper accompt, and paid and received much moneys upon their
accompt by way of exchange, this deponent acting in his Counting
house and being thereby more especially acquainted with the premisses,
and receiving and opening and answering his said masters letters
being by him intrusted in the cheifest management of his merchandizing
affaires. And by advises and merchandizing dispatches, hee hath found
and seene that the other producents namely diago Baraza, Andrew
and Christofer Nunez and diego Perez [?Caminho]. were and are alsoe
merchants of very considerable traffique at and from and to the foresaid
places and for such commonly accompted, and this deponent hath
corresponded with them in the way aforesaid, And otherwise hee cannot depose

To the second article of the said allegation and the severall chests of sugar
mentioned as therein is expressed and one hundred quintalls
of Brazil wood therein alsoe specified to be laden aboard the shipp the Thirstie
hart
