Transcription The same day. [CENTRE HEADING] Examined uThe same day. [CENTRE HEADING] Examined upon the foresaid allegation. '''2''' '''Claes Williamson''' of Amsterdam Mariner late Stiersman of the<br /> said shipp the ''Wheele of ffortune'', aged 35 yeares or thereabouts<br /> sworne and examined. To the first article of the said allegation hee saith and deposeth that hee well<br /> knoweth the producent william davison and hath soe donne for theise twelve<br /> weekes last past or thereabouts, and saith the said williamson for all the said<br /> time and to the time of the casting away of the ''wheele of ffortune'' arlate was commonly<br /> accompted and reputed owner of her and of her tackle and furniture, and<br /> that the said william was and is a merchant of Amsterdam, and sent her<br /> out thence about October last for Gottenburg to lade pitch and tarr<br /> for this port of london, which hee knoweth because this deponent went<br /> thence Stiersman of her; And otherwise hee cannot depose To the second hee saith and deposeth that in or neere about the end of Novermber and<br /> beginning of the moneth of december last past one hance Marl[?XXX] at Gottenburgh as<br /> factor or Agent for the arlate Anthony Phillips and William Smith of this Citie Merchants<br /> laded the sayd vessell the ''Wheele of ffortune'' with three and twenty lasts and a halfe of<br /> tarre and halfe a last of pitch to be thence transported to this Port of London for the proper<br /> Accompt and adventure of the sayd Anthony Phillipps and William Smith and here to bee<br /> delivered unto him And saith that on or about the 21th of this instant december (new<br /> style) the sayd shipp the ''Wheele of ffortune'' having receaved her sayd ladeing aboard departed<br /> from Gottenburgh for this port of London the place of her discharge, and at or about<br /> the 28th of the same moneth (new style) towards evening comming (as this deponent<br /> guessed) within three leagues of North fforeland and fearing in the darke to bee to much<br /> ingaged upon the Coast the sayd shipps company shortned their sayles and laye a [?trice] with<br /> a course of the mayne sayle soe to drive till day light came on that they might come in with<br /> more securitie, and that as soone as the night came on they put out their light in the strome,<br /> which continued constantly up and giving a good light till eight of the clock at night at<br /> which tyme hee saith a shipp of fflushing named the ''Yonge Prince William'' (Claus<br /> doubleyupe Master) came from fflushingwards bound for Biscay and came right<br /> before the winde without any light and ran right uppon the ''wheele of ffortune'' (having then her<br /> light out upon her sterne, soe that the ''yonge Prince William'' might easily have seene her<br /> and passed by her) and sayled her and sunck her downe in the sea with the foresayd goods<br /> soe laden aboard her for the Accompt of the sayd Phillips and Smith, and one halfe<br /> last of tarr for the Accompt of this deponents precontest Lawrence Johnson, and all the<br /> Company of the said shipp ''Wheele of ffortunes'' cloathes saving what they had on their<br /> backs, and soe the sayd shipp and hoods perished and were cast away tgeather with<br /> one of the Company of the sayd shipp ''Wheele of ffortune'' named Lawrence Williamson<br /> who was drowned in the sayd shipp, and all by meanes of the sayd shipp ''Yonge''<br /> ''Prince William'' soe remaining upon the ''Wheele of ffortune'', which might have bin avoided<br /> if the Company of the ''Yonge Prince'' had looked out and taken care, the ''wheele of ffortune''<br /> having her light out as aforesayd and this deponent and the rest of the<br /> Company of the sayd shipp ''Wheele of ffortune'' and the Master thereof had much adoe to serve<br /> them selves and gett into the ''Yonge Prince'' And this hee saith was and is true and publique And<br /> otherwise hee cannot depose./ To the third hee saith the ssayd shipp the ''Wheele of ffortune'' with her tackle and furniture at and to<br /> the tyme of her being cast away as aforesayd were worth the summe of three and<br /> twenty hundred Guilders and the sayd tarr was worth thirteene pounds sterling per<br /> last and the half last of pitch nyne pounds sterling,<br /> soe much the sayd pitch<br /> and tarr (according to the Common report and estimation would have yeilded at this port, And<br /> alsoe saith that the Mariners cloathes and Instruments were worth the summe of two hundred<br /> guilders And otherwise hee cannot depose/ [?XXXX] williamson [SIGNATURE, RH SIDE]/ [?XXXX] williamson [SIGNATURE, RH SIDE]  +
