1. To the first, second and third Interrogatoryes he deposeth
2. and saith that he the deponent did very well know
3. the interrate shipp the Peter and Jane, being one
4. of the said shipps Company (whereof the interrate
5. George Chappell was master) That she was of
6. the burden of (about) 250 Tonnes and had in her
7. at the time of her seizure interrate 21 Gunns, and
8. was a new, tight and stanch shipp /the voyage
9. interrate being the first she ever made) and that the
10. interrate Peter Middleton, Edward and John Bushell
11. were of this deponents knowledge reputed part owners of
12. her, and that the said shipp being in Lisbon in the
13. possessiom of the said George Chappell she was about
14. the moneth of June 1650 seized upon by order of the
15. king of Portugall and the said Chappell and all
16. the said shipps Company turned out of her and imprisoned
17. and the said shipp imployed by the said king of
18. Portugall as a man of warr against the fleet of
19. the Commonwealth, and that she was in the said
20. kings service about the space of sixe monthes, and
21. that the said shipp did well deserve 200l per month
22. for her imployment, but that there was never
23. any satisfaction made for her said service And
24. further he cannot depose.
25. To the fourth and fifth Interrogatoryes he deposeth that the
26. shipp interrate was cictualled (at the time of her seizure)
27. for a Westerne=Island voyage, and that the same
28. provisions were allmost spent at the time of the said
29. shipps redelivery And that there belonged unto the said
30. shipp at the time of her being seized or sequestred 35
31. Mariners besides the Master interrate, who were all
32. imprisoned and deteyned by the kking of Portugall for
33. sixe monthes time at least to their very great damage
34. and losse, And that the said Master and his servants
35. wages amounteth unto the summe of 54l for the said sixe
36. monthes And further he cannot depose.
37. To the sixth, seaventh and eighth Interrogatoryes he deposeth and
38. saith that the Master interrate could not expend lesse than
39. 137l in the maintenance of himselfe and the said shipps
40. Company during their said imprisonment, and that
41. the Master had aboard the said shipp at the time interrate
42. divers goods and merchandizes as seeds, silkes, steele
43. papers (the value whereof he knoweth not) all which he
44. utterly lost and was deprived of And he alsoe
45. deposeth that the goods and six monthes wages of 29
46. Mariners of the 35 Mariners (which belonged
47. untio the said shipp) amounteth and commeth unto
48. the summe of sixe hundred ninety seaven pounds
49. and fifteene shillings at the least, And
50. further he deposeth not./
