1. Provinces and had XXXX the sayd goods were by order ˹or decree˺ of this Court
2. restored to Jeronimo Nunes da Arrost (for whome this deponent prosecuted
3. the sayd cause) as being a subiect of the sayd States, and alsoe saith that
4. by prosecution of the sayd suite for the sayd da Arost this deponent came to knowe
5. that the sayd shipp was by decree of this Court with a great part of her
6. ladeing restored to subiects of the sayd States of the United Provinces
7. as belonging to them And saith that as this deponent hath bin by letters
8. of advice sent from Cadiz Credibly heard amongst Merchants of
9. London the sayd shipp soone after her being cleared by decree of this
10. Court sett sayle from London with divers of the goods by decree of this
11. Court restored as belonging to subiects of the States of the United
12. Provinces in her, bound for Cadiz, where she arrived, And (as
13. this deponent hath bin by letters sent from his Correspondents at
14. Cadiz informed) was ˹presently˺ after her arrivall there (which was as hee remembreth
15. about sixe or eight moneths since) togeather with all her ladeing seized
16. by subiects of the King of Spaine and deteyned by them from their
17. owners And further to this article hee cannot depose/
18. To the 7th article hee saith hee well knoweth that within the yeares
19. and moneths arlate and since the Pease betweene the King of Spaine
20. and the Lords of the United Provinces hee this deponent being by
21. birth a Portuguese but for these three yeares an Inhabitant of the
22. Cittie of London as a Merchant Stranger and in both respects an
23. Enymie to the King of Spaine hath in the sayd tyme receaved seuerall
24. Merchandizes from Lisbone here in London and had for his owne
25. Accompte and ˹hath had˺ severall goods sent for this deponents Accompt from
26. Lisbone to ffrance, but for the better preserveing them from being
27. seized if mett with by any men of warr subiects of the King of Spaine
28. hee this deponent hath caused his Correspondents at Lisbone
29. to take bills of ladeing for the sayd goods as laden for Accompt of
30. subiects of the States of the United Provinces and as bound for
31. the United Provinces when in reality the same were bound for ffrance
32. or England countryes in hostility with the King of Spaine, and
33. for Accompt of this deponent a subiect of Portuguese and an
34. Inhabitant of England And saith it is a usuall practize among
35. Merchants of such Countries as are in hostility with the Spaniard
36. or have gXXX goods sent from any Country in hostility with the
37. Spaniard, or to any Country in hostility with him to make
38. the like colourable bills as if the same were for Accompt of the
39. subiects of Princes or States in Amity with the King of Spaine
40. and bound to Countries in Amity with him And further to this article hee cannot depose./
